was gridded near the back of the field , and it took him a few laps to get to the front. Th en he ho ok ed up with Doug Polen, who used a number of CCS races for testi ng. Regardless of where he wa s, Polen pulled in before th e chec ke red flag . In the Unlimi ted Superb ike he was ~J st behind Kling, who went on to win by 7.201 seconds , taking the five-lap race in ni ne m inutes, 43.241 seco nds, a t an average speed of 109.869 mp h. "We'll come back tomorrow (for the Formu la USA race) and see what we can do ," Kling said . Michael Barnes join ed the Dutchman team for the week end, and he hooked up in a d uel wi th Polen . Their battle was in the Unlimited G rand Prix class, Barnes and Po len pa ssin g Pen guin Racing School's Eric Wood to take over first and S<.'COnd at the sta rt of the third lap. By the fifth lap, they had nearl y seven secon ds on Wood , with Barnes motoring awa y and Polen pulling in. Lee Shierts finished third. Barnes, who last rod e th e Dutchman Yamaha in 1995, said the team needed to "rename it from the 'Yamamonster' to the 'Yamamissile' because this thing flies arou nd the banking." H e w on th e race by 9.281 seco nds, averaging 110.912 mph in completing the five-lap race in nine minutes, 37.755 seconds. Wood took his lon e win in th e rain y Expert Middleweight Superbike race on Friday. Wood and Mike Luke pulled away a t the start, before a red fla g stopped the race. O n the restart, it wa s Wood, Jeffrey C urtis and Lu ke, wit h Wood pulli ng away after the third lap, pu tting his feet d own in the heavily puddled chicane. He wo n th e five- lap race in 11 min utes, 21.940 seconds , at an averag e speed . of 93.967 mph. "It was pretty ugly ou t there," Wood said. " It started ge tting dark a t the end of the race. I jus t wan ted to ma ke su re I could see where I was going." The multiple winners in the Ama teur ra nks were Gabriel Hennin g and Keith Hoogstad , and their races were some of the most exciting of the weekend. H~nnin g began his winning wa ys on Friday , taking the Amateur M iddleweight Sportbike cla ss by the very narrowest of ma rgin."i - JXl2 of a second . Th e Honda CBR6OD-mo unted TBR Racing rid er just nip ped Chris Greer at the line, completin g the five-lap ra ce in 10 minutes, 22.491 seconds, at an average s p eed of 102.94 1 mp h. Scha u m b u rg Honda's Jam es Stancel was third. In the Amateur Heavyweigh t Sportbike cl.,.., Henning an d Greer split from the 55-rider pack and ran n"", to tail for the entire five laps. Gr eer took th e lead on the west banking a nd in to th e chica ne, holding about a three-bike-length advan tage as they made their run to the flag. Henning hoo ked up in the draft, and drove aro un d Gree r to win by .030 of a second . " Fo rtu na tely, it worked out," Henning sa id . " It was a lmost a repeat of Thursday's race. II's good running wi th a gu y like Chris (Greer)." Henning won in 10 m inutes, 27.253 seconds , at an average speed of 102.160 mph. Keith Hoogstad was third. Hoogstad also won a pair of races, the first being Friday's wet Amateur Mid dleweight Superbike contest. Third off th e s tar t, Hoogstad moved up a spot w he n Ga briel Henning crashed in the first horsesh oe on the third lap . That put MORE Road racin g's Bobby Ludlum in the lead , wi th Hoogstad second, as He nning remounted afte r losing a hand ful of spots. The fight wou ld go to the end , beginning in earnes t exiting the .chica ne a fter running int o traffic. Both Ludlum and Hoogstad stuck to the bottom of the track, with Hongstad staying down to run underneath Ludlum at the flag by less than half a bike length. The officia l margin of victo ry was .005 of a second . Hoogstad wo n his first race in 11 min utes , 56.812 seconds, at an average speed of 89.396 mph. "I went off my bike throu gh the fast left and climbed back on with two laps to go," Hongstad said . In the Amateur Heavyweight Superbike ra ce, Greer and Hoogstad pulled awa y from th e 42-rider pack early on . Greer led most o f th e way, with Hoogstad co n te n t to s i t a nd wait. 11 wasn't until the final lap that Hongstad took the lead go ing into tum one, with Greer taking it back in the Intern ational Horseshoe . Th en H oogstad was b y Greer, taking th e lead go ing out of th e chicane. Side by sid e, th ey made their way to the stripe, with Hongstad on the top of the track to take his second win, this time by .370 of a second . . "Chris (Greer) ra n reall y fast in th e infield," sa id Hoogstad , wh o sa id he' d pr obably reti re fro m raci ng after thi s yea r. "I knew I had power on the ban king . I decided to use it in my favor." Ho ogstad averaged 104.186 m ph in winn ing the five-lap race in 10 m inutes, ." 15.056 seconds.
