tw ice. In the initial sta rt, Graves was second
off the line on h is Gra ves Motorsports-sponsored Suzu ki GSXR1100 be hind Cu rtis Adams ,
with Fra nk A raguki ru nn in g third . Between
t u rns two a n d thre e, G ra ves powe red past
Adams, only to be repass ed by Adam s in the
back st raig h t. Co m pleting the first lap, G raves
drafted Ad a ms d ow n t he front straight and
dropped to the inside to retake th e lea d .
Adams con tin ue d fighting fo r the le a d ,
pa ssing Graves again in th e ba ck straight on
la p two. For nea rly the nex t two la ps, Ad a ms
kept G rave s in c heck . H o w e ve r , Ada m s
crashed co rning o ut of tum o ne a s lap four go t
under way, giving G raves a so lid ho ld on the
lead . At th e sa me time, Araguki ca rne und er
pressure fro m Tcke y Beck, who po wered in to
secon d d o wn the back st raight. Aragaki's hold
o n th ird p roved tenuou s, a s he was pa ssed by
Je ff Sho r t a s th e rid ers r ound ed turn t w o .
Within a few seconds , the co ntest wa s hal ted
when race off icia ls suspected oil had been left
on th e track aft er a rider crashed in turn eight.
The e ight- la p race re st art was red-fla gged
when a rider crashed in th e fir st lap, lea vi ng
equipment and oil on th e tr ack. Afte r the incident wa~ cleaned up by WSMC offi cia ls, a sixla p rest art got und er wa y with Beck grabbi ng
th e holeshot, Craves in seco nd a nd A ragaki in
third . In turn two, Gra ves powered past Beck
to tak e the lead .
A lap la ter, a four-rider battle wa s under
way for third, w ith Dean Vincent mo mentarily
emerging fr om th e dogfight . Ho we ve r, a lap
la ter , Vin cent faced an other cha lle nge from Jeff
Short, w ho captured th ird after twistin g th e
th rot tle bet wee n turn s two a nd three.
W it h no furth er cha nges in the to p three,
Gra ves took the wi n, followed by Beck in sec f~
e nd an d Short in th ird.
