CIJ E u o 40 in tu m one by johnny Demoissey. The w in w ent to G ree n, p r es sured by Du cati-mou nted Malcolme Tunstall, w ho had charged his way to the front during the second half of the race. In a graci ou s display of s por t s ma ns hi p , Dem oissey gave Borg an apology - and h is third-place plaque - d u ring the evening awards ceremony. Poo ns dou bled up his 350cc GP win wit h a su rprise victory in 500cc Premier. The Seeley Condor rider hounded Barber's Stephen Mathews all race, and the Matchless G50 rider looked to have the win sealed - that is, unti l his string of bad luck at Steamboat continued when a pa rt in the GSO's valvetrain broke in the last half of the last lap . Second wen t to BMW rider Ralph Auer, who had a racelon g ba ttl e with Hon d a Dr ixt on rid er Stua rt Carter. Auer, too, was a double winner, easily taking Pre-'40 and not so easily winning class C. The latter wa s a back-andfor th affai r with Fred Mark, riding his Manx Norton . On lap se ve n, for instance, Mark dived into the lead into tu rn one, only to have BMW-mounted Au er storm back into the lead two turns later. At the checkered flag, Auer held a s mall margin. Mork rod e his ex-Dic k Mann Matchless to the Classic '60s win over AjS pilot Lon McCroskey (AjS). Heritage Racin g's Ada m Popp rod e to a pair of con vincing Honda-powered. w ins , fir st over hard-charging Ho nda rider Tim Stancill in Sportsman 350cc, then a hea d of Will Harding' s Gu zzi in Formula 75Occ. Also doubling up in the win column was Paul Lima, taking his No rto n from th e back ro w to victo ry in Spor tsma n 750cc a nd Formula Vintage.. Th e la tter sa w a good ra ce fo r second bet w een Ra nd y Bradesku on his BMW and Yamaha-mo un ted David Temple, with Brad esku earning second in this and the 750cc race. Yamaha-mounted Rick N ewman doubled in vintage and modem, taking bo th Formula 500 and Battle of the Tw in s Two-Stroke. The latter wa s a close one over Form ula 250 winner Chip Larkby. One of the best ra ces on Saturday came in Battle o f th e Twin s Formula On e. Ducati-mo un ted Bill SI. john held the narrowest lead over a ra ging battl e involving Suzu ki-mounted james Lickwar, Ducati rid er jeff Na sh , and Ch ris Fill mo re. Unfortunately, the race was called early when Fillmore dropped his Ducati 748 in tum nine. Second went to Nash, over Lickwar. Lickwar, however, got his revenge in Sound of Thund er, taki ng the win over Na sh a nd Kelly Newma n. As if that were n ' t en ou g h, New ma n and his Rotax prevailed over Nas h and his Duca ti in Sunday's SuperMono . t;\, Hayden Speedway Hayden, Col orado Results: september 10, 1997 (Round 12 of 18) DirtTr~ck eLSC 250; 1.
