and Drew in pursuit.
Heal ey motored past Naughton on
lap three, and the battle was definitely .
n, with Myers wai ting in the wings. By
then, Smail had put some d istance on
faylor an d wo uld not be stopped.
Wa lters again mounted an imp resive charge to catch Taylor on lap eight.
As th e y rounded the flag a rea, th ey
appeaned to be going flat out. Carving to
the inside, Walters made an a ttempt to
get under Taylor in the next Ieft-hander,
Wa lters went high, then ducked .down
th e inside for the ne xt straightaway.,
Taylor tried to stay to the inside, bu t
Walters al ready ha d it pinned for the
outside berm. Walt ers railed the berm
an d powered past Taylor for the number-two spot. Taylor backed it d own a
notch. as Walters never let up for a seco nd . Walters ke pt up his momentum
a n d th um p ed away to a five-secon d
ad vantage.
With three la ps to go, Sma i! w as
cruising in the lead . Walters was pushing to try to catch him, and Taylor was
putting in a great showing for the BBR
race team as he ran third. Naughton displaced Healey for fourth.
Kalos was turning so me good la p
times of his own. but Smail would corne
a round a n d lap him by mo to' s en d .
Kalos ended up the day with a disappointing 17th in moto two.
.
With two laps remaining. Myers also
had some bad luck as his transmission
failed, an d he pulled into the pits.
The checkers flew for Smail, with
Walters second, followed by Taylor.
Naughton held off the advances of
Healey. Bloomfield took his APECbacked K1M 620LC4 to sixth place and
garnered seventh overall in the series.
Gu rn ee crossed the line seventh,
arguably not ba d for his first ride of the
season. Hamness, too, rode to his best
finish of the series, wi th an eighth. Drew
w orked through the pack aboard his
N orth County Yamaha / XM-Xole enba cked LC4 to nail ninth, which will
a lso be hi s Nationa l n umber for n ext
year. Hart took his Cliff's Cycle Center• backed K1M to 10th in mo to two, wpich
