'The tra ck is very bad for 500 machines," Jansson said in an interview with Great Britain's Motor Cycle News. "In one of the latest Belgium champi onship ro und s, Joel cou ld only score a ninth place. I th ink that Werner d eWit will ride the 125 machine, with Bervoet s and Everts on the 2.'iOs." Smets is reportedly going to have a talk wi th new team manager Joe l Robert ab out the team lineup. Australian Sha ne Watts , who recently won the World 125cc Enduro Cha m pions hip, will fo llow the lea d of Pa u l Edmondson and race the 1998 season in America . Yet while Watts will live in America, he still plans to race the World Enduro Championship Series. "I want to win World Championships , but living in America will be more fun , and I can get money from both sides of the Atlantic," Watts said. Watts also plans to race the 1998 Paris-Dakar, an d is in the process of s ign ing a three-year contract with KTM. Legendary French rid er Stephane Peter hansel has announced tha t he " ill retire from motorcycle racing a t the end of the 1998 season. "I' m nearl y sure I' ll race the World Enduro Cha mpio nships, an d then thai's it," Pelerhans el said . "I might go ca r racing, bul I will decid e a t th e end of ' 98." Peterhansel recently w on the World 175cc Enduro Cham pionship, and is considering the switch after having done some car racing in his ho mela nd . The Women Motorcyclists of Southern California, Aids Hea lthca re Foundation of Los Angeles and Shanti of San Francisco are presenting the "Ride for Life," to promote education and prevention of the sp read of AIDS. The ride will begin a t 9 a.m . on October 18, in both Los Angeles an d San Francisco. Riders will be meetin g at the Avila Beach Resort in Avila Beach (ou tside of San Luis O bispo ) for a party, concert and fair. Fo r mo re information , ca ll 864-2718222. 1998 Suzuki RMs uzu ki has released details on the changes to its 1998 RM motocross lineup, and the RMl 25 received the most significan t cha nges. Alon g with the black radi ator shrouds, new seat cover and graphics tha t the entire lineup rec eived (which was the extent of the cha nges on the RM80), the RMl25 featu res a red esigned cra nkcase wi th an internally mo un ted wa ter pump (like the 250 gOI in '96). The 125 also got a pus hrod-type clu tch, a Keih in PWM36 carbu re tor wi th a new-style reed block, plus new cylinder po rting and exhaust mod ifications. The R.1.25O received new cylinder porting and exhaust-valve modificat ions, a new \ Keihin PWK38 "Powerjet" carburetor, and a new exhaust sys tem. The RMl25 an d 250 hav e also received upg rad es to their conventional twin -cham ber cartri dge forks, which reduce weig ht and are sai d to im pro ve damping performance. The rear sus pensio n on bo th bikes feature an all- new linkage design and a shock absorber with a larger-diam eter bod y. The RM80 ,,~II retail for $2929. Prices on the RMl 25 and 250 are no t yet available.
