Klinefelter cleans up .atTrail·Way ST · By Len and Ben Breech HM:OVER.PA,JULY5 Little Chr is Klinefelter won th e socc final after s ta rting from th e pen a lt y lin e fo r the seco nd time in a. row at a Trail-Way sho rt tr ack race. Although he exited the second tu m in fou rth place, Klin efelter was jud ged to have jumped th e st art a nd go t sent to the penalty line. On the second start. Jared Mees gr abbed the lead from Ray Lied , Zac h Ca lcu tt and Nick Lipi ra, with Klinefelt er go ing to the uppe r part of the groove. By the fourth lap, he ha d passed up to second p lace and ha d th e tough Mee a in fron t. With Met'S h olding th e inside lin e, Klmefelt er got out- sid e him as th ey exited the second tum o n the fifth lap and w as in first by the time they left the third tum. Other s mall-class w ins went t o Brand on Robinson again in 5Scc (U ). John Long in 55cc Oi l-In jected, Juh n Davis in S5cc (7-8). and Ia red Mccs in 6Scc. The Expert and Pro racers took turns bea ting each other. Ricky Win sett and Georgie Price traded pla ces, as Price beat Winsett in the 600cc Pro class, while Winse tt re tu rned the favo r in the Sportsmen class. Bob Sweet en took the Over 30 holcshot and held off Mike McKee for six of the eight la ps be fore McKl"etook the win. Mckee's atte mpt at a do ub le in the 600cc A final was thwarted by Roy Miller. Jim Chapma n held o ff Clarence Buff for hi e firs t w in o f the ye ar in the 750cc A class, wh ile Rick Wash ack topped th e Ov er 40 class. Wh eelwright post ed th e secon d-, fourth - an d sixth-fas test tim es as he claimed victories in the 250cc. 500cc and Stock cla sses. Though wheelwright d id n't win th e fast -time award, if there ha d been an altitu de tro ph y, he would ha ve won it, a'i he thrilled the crowd time after time with full -t hro tt le flight s th r ou g h the li g h ts end incredi bly high over the top of the l~foot hill. The race was held on the fast an d challenging National track, a layo ut tha t o ffers a gre at variety of jumps, long straights, and tigh t tums. The sta rt chute is notori ou sly long and fas t, and Vlad o vlch va ulted his KTM to the head of the pack and never loo ked back. riding flawl essl y to an u nchallenged mora win . However, there was a torrid battle for fourth place be tween Yamaha-mounted Steve Jackso n and Sam Rodrigu ez. The tw o engaged in combat ea rly in the race an d continued to spar th rou gh. ou t the en tire mot o. Rodri guez was all ov er Jackso n, bu t Jackso n was ridi ng as wide as a sem i, cou ntering Rod riguez's every move.
