In regard to Don Wal ter's recent letter
(Issue #28 , july 16), Wayne Gardner
m a y have sounded like he was discounting Michael Doohan's record and
Eddie Lawson's influence at Honda, and
I can see how you may have drawn
those conclusions from that one story. In
the same interview, Gard ne r described
Doohan's recent eclipse of Mike Hailwood's record of 37 500cc GP wins as
"terrific" and had nothing but praise for
his current status as the undisputed bet
rider in the world . Ga rd ne r added that
he visi ted Dooha n recen tly in Europe,
spent time on h is boat. and said the ir
relationshi p is very good. Many expected Ga rdner to be jealous of Doohan's
s uccess, but if anyt hing he's been
singing his p ra ises.
As fo r Lawson, they ce rtai n ly were
fierce ri va ls , b ut Gardner ha s always
had grea t res pect for him . Wayn e's comments regard in g Eddie's inp ut in to the
1990 NSRSOO were sim ply the way he '
saw it - rig ht or wrong.
Please don't th ink I'm on the Wayne
Ga rd ne r payroll. I just thought I'd try to
clarify a few aspects you picked u p from
tha t story.

Unfortunately, weather conditions prompted the memorial "Dash for Cash" to be run
last on tire night's program. At that paint,
RousSl'l1u was t'!ling to talk to those riders
who had jllst fillished racing ill the Nationaf. If nothing else, we should have included
the results... Editor.

We misidentified Kent Hoioerton's mechanic
in one of the photos that accompani d the

like there was a g remlin in the pits for
ou r AMA boys .
W hy wasn't there any coverage of

from him anything? The stuff that he
did was u n believable. And the o nly
