Fay, riding Rot a x, found th e smooth-as; glass track to his likin g and motored on the field of combined Expe rt and Pro-Am rid ers in qualifying action . Fay bea t fellow Expert rid ers }eff Hia tt and Eric Rickm an to the finish lin e, w hile the onl y change in po sitio ns came as Beau Bro wn moved up behind George Prind iville for the seco nd Pro-A m spo t. While so me riders opted to use the outside spo t on the front row as the po le position, Fay chose th e inside. Fay' s choice wo rked for him as he grabbed the lead on th e openi ng lap of the 15-Ia p fina l and never loo ked ba ck . Rickman " bett ered his heat-race showi ng by sla mmi ng the do or sh u t on Hiatt's ad van ces, thu s enabli ng him to nab the seco nd spo t be hind Fay at th e finish. Hiatt finished a close third, followed by Pr in d iville. t he Pro-Am w inner Bro wn and Rota x-moun ted Terry Akin. Coming out of the final turn and into the hom e stre tch, Harritt got the best trac tion of all the 7505 to bar ely ed ge W"rd for the win . By Dic k Goodwin LAS VEGAS,NV,jUNE14 Kyle Shearer used the momentum from his firs t· moto win to ca pture th e overall victory in th e 60cc Novice class at Las Vegas MX. It wa s th e local club's first race un d er the lights in 1997. The Hen derson hotsh oc used the intense compe- -' tition in this di vision to his adva ntage , allo wing th e vaga ries of ra cing to scra m ble hi s mllin oppo nen ts while he stayed at or near the fron t in both motos. Ryan Bruwn stuc k his KX into the cJl:'an air ou t in front to star t race o ne , fo llowed very close ly by Taylor Gilmore a nd Wesle y Harris. Kyle Chamberlain forced his way in to third in the firs t few tu rn s, a nd Sheare r wa s m at ch ing the leaders' pace in fifth. Louis Kossuth, las t ye.u's third-ranked rid er in the nation at the U.s. Na tiona l Speedway Championship in Cos ta Mesa , drew the po le for the Scratch Main.
