Fay, riding Rot a x, found th e smooth-as;
glass track to his likin g and motored on the
field of combined Expe rt and Pro-Am rid ers in
qualifying action . Fay bea t fellow Expert rid ers
}eff Hia tt and Eric Rickm an to the finish lin e,
w hile the onl y change in po sitio ns came as Beau
Bro wn moved up behind George Prind iville for
the seco nd Pro-A m spo t.
While so me riders opted to use the outside
spo t on the front row as the po le position, Fay
chose th e inside. Fay' s choice wo rked for him as
he grabbed the lead on th e openi ng lap of the
15-Ia p fina l and never loo ked ba ck . Rickman "
bett ered his heat-race showi ng by sla mmi ng the
do or sh u t on Hiatt's ad van ces, thu s enabli ng
him to nab the seco nd spo t be hind Fay at th e
finish. Hiatt finished a close third, followed by
Pr in d iville. t he Pro-Am w inner Bro wn and
Rota x-moun ted Terry Akin.

60cc Novice class at Las Vegas MX. It wa s th e
local club's first race un d er the lights in 1997.
