but it turned against him ,
and he found himself in the fifth spo t

moved int o thi rd, but he w ould go no
highe r. McConnell, working the insi de,
was a close four th , bu t he too could go
no h igh e r . It wa s a s w ee t wi n fo r
Schwartz, w ho ran second to Fari a the
week before at the American Spee dway

As in'the Scrat ch raci ng , in o rder to
mak e the Handicap Mai n, yo u hav e to
m o ve u p the program . Th e Semi saw
Charlie Coo ley on the IO-ya rd line all by
himself. Jason Chism had th e 30-ya rd
line to himself, with Schwa rtz, Northrup
and Oxley on the 40. Pfetzing was sole
owner of the 50. It too k Northrup three
lap s to move Cooley off the groove but,
once he did, the win was his. Oxley also
had no tro uble ge tti ng und er Cool ey,
and he moved to the second spot, with
Chism getting by on the wh ite-fla g lap
fo r the third . Th e Fin al spot went to
Schwartz, and th ese four w ould meet
again in the Main.
Rand y DiFr ances co was the o n ly
low-ya rd age rid er to make th e Handicap Main , and he had the lQ-ya rd line
all to himself. Jaso n Chism was a lso
alone o n the 30. The 4Q-yard line held
Northrup, Oxley, Fari a , Schwartz a nd
McCo nnell. Luce ro wa s sole occu pant of
the 50.
At the star t, it wa s DiFrancesco o ut
front with a good lead that took the
field fou r laps to close up. Ox ley took
charge on th e fifth lap, after C hism
we n t o ut a n d len t he d oor open .
McConnell w as agai n d o wn lo w and
moved into seco nd . No r th r u p w a s
knocking on DiFran cesco's d oor, an d he

was right there as DiFran cesco go t high ,
and the Scratc h win ner was q uic kly int o
fourth. Faria pulled out on the sixth lap,
leaving Lucero as the final rider to cross
the line.
The Sideca r main had a very unusual
twist. O n the pole we re Bob Brayt on and
Pa rke Weav er, a nd next to th em were
Peter Lewis and Jam ie Macy. Steve Mor~
row an d Chris Chapman on the Suzuki
we re in th ree, wi th Rand y Mclntyr e and
Jeff Medb er ry on the far outside. Lewis
and Macy go t 10 the co rn er firs t, but
Brayton and Wea ver were han ging right
w ith them and co nti n ue d to put the
p ressure o n. O n th e wh ite -flag lap, it
loo ked as if Lewis and Macv had overturned coming out of two, and Brayton
and Weaver hit th em br oad sid e. This let
Morrow / Chap man and Mclntyre/Medbe rry get by. The w in was given to Mor row and Chapman, a nd they took the
chec kered flag for the victory lap . Meanw hile, Lewis and Macy wer e pl ead in g
their case to th e referee, and the ca ll
came down: dan gerou s driving by Brayton and W ~a ver . Th e race was back ed
up a lap, and th e wi n we nt to Lewis an d
Macy, with Morrow / Chapman second .
Mcintyre and M ed b err y w e re third ,
with Brayton and Weaver given fourth.
Morrow and C ha p ma n th en pl eaded
their case, but the referee held firm.
Bill Green was on th e zer o-yard line
in the Support main. The 10 had Carlos
Ca rdona and Kon Baur, with Paul Binnquis t, Randy Skinner and Ric ha rd
Jones on the 20.·The red flag came out in
les s th an o ne lap, w hen Bi nnq uist
par ked it in one and went down, and
Skinner laid it down to kee p from hi tting him.
O n th e re s ta r t, G reen led i t all th e
way for his first Suppo rt main win . Cardona was seco nd, with Binnqu ist third.
Baur, Jones an d Ski n ner rounded out
the field .
