Davis and A therton have been
lreque nting the box with
alarming re g ularity.
they will rem ain on such a roll is unce rtain, but they are building mom entum.
In Grand Nati onal ra cing , b ui ldi ng
momentum often builds championships.
That's about all there is to it.
883 NATIONAL
TCR wasn 't the only Gran d National
te am to put in a d o m in a ti ng perf o rmance at the Sedalia Half Mile, as 1-800FASTHOG /Moron ey' s Harley-Da vid so n teammates Mike Hac ker and Davey
Camlin got into a shootout of their own
d ur ing the 12-lap AMA Ha rley-Davidso n 883 Na tional.
Las Vegas H-D/ American Asp halt &
Gradi ng' s Jess Roed er got the holesh ot
in th e main eve nt, and looked unstoppable for the first seven laps before the
two Moroney' s riders un ceremoni ous ly
dumped him to third place on the back
stra ight in the most action -packed lap of
the race. Hacker caught Roeder with an
inside move as the pai r hea ded d own
the chute, an d appeared set to tak e the
lead, bu t the third -placed Camlin pulled
o ff a sur prise d oub le pa ss to ta ke the
point a s th e trio s k it tered into tu rn
three.
"I jus t made one mistake, and they
got by me: ' Roeder said. "I gam bled on
shutting off ea rly and trying to get back
u nder Mik e, a nd I d idn' t know th at
Davey was ther e. If I had , I wo uld n't
have d on e that. 'After that, I tried the
h igh lin e, and it d idn't work, so I just
d ropped to the bottom and too k third.
At least th at' s b e tt er tha n last yea r,
when I cras hed here."
The pass did n' t sit well wit h the com p et iti ve Hacker, a nd the for me r 883
se ries cha mp ion actually mad e contact
with Ca mlin as he made a pass to lead
lap nine. But Ca mlin, already a two-ti me
winner in the series thus far, had th e
measure of Hacker, and moved aro un d
one lap later for good. Camlin then conti nued to pull away to a comfor table
margin at the finish for his third win of
th e season. Hacker was second . Roeder
was third.
"Mike set that one up:' Camlin said
of h is d ouble pass. " Roeder got sidew ays and moved up coming off of two.
Mike squeezed in there, but he had to
back off so that he didn't lake him out.
1bat just let me get a good run on 'em .
