Kawasaki Team Green has announced that it will be providing technicians for trackside support and emergency services at the Mammoth MX in Mammoth Lakes, California, on June 23-28. Team . Green will offer the same su pport at the GNC Good Times National (July 5-6), Team Green/GFI Youth World National (July' 5-6) and the Tennessee Volunteer State Championsl').ip (July 12-13). Motocrossers Anthony Pocorobba and Robbie Skaggs were named as the winners of the Skoal Bandit Racing Pro Privateer Challenge round.e.t the AMA 125/250cc National MX at High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania, on May 25. Pocorobba put together 15-9 motos to finish 11 th overall in the 250cc class, while Skaggs' 7-6 scores were good for sixth overall in the 12Sec class. Both riders received $500 checks from Skoal Bandit Racing for their efforts. In an effort to step up its coverage of motorcycle racing, the Speedvision television network program Bike Week will be stepping up its highlights coverage of premier AMA events, including the inaugural AMA Road Racing Grand Championship and the 16th annual Amateur National Motocross Championships. The Road Racing Grand Championship is scheduled for September 2628 and will air on October 8. The Amateur National Motocross Championships are set for August 14-17 and will air on August 19. Other events slated for Bike Week coverage include the AMA National Reliability Enduro Championship Finale and the AMA Amateur & Youth Dirt Track Championships. Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch in Lake Whitney, Texas, has announced that it has attained sanction for the final round of the Tour of Texas MX Series. The event is scheduled to take place on August 30-31. The race facility formerly known as Rainbow Motocross Track has been reopened under the Competition Park moniker. Wheels Through Time museum founder Dale Walksler embarked on his 3200mile transcontinental record attempt from the Petersen Automotive Museum on June 5,1997. Aboard the same model 1917 Hend.erson used originally, Walksler is attempting to break the LA-to- Gas Gas to build four-stroke panish motorcycle manufacturer Gas Gas, best known for its World Championship-winning trials machines, is looking to expand its range to include four-strokes. It is a significant step for such a small-volume manufacturer to undertake the substantially higher development and manufacturing costs of a four-stroke engine, even a single-cylinder one, and suggests that Gas Gas has big plans for the future. "Gas Gas decided to build this engine following the tradition of the company to have its own technology and proprietary engines, so to our 125, 200, 250, 270 and 320cc trials range, we will add to the TI250 a MC250 and the new four-stroke," Gas Gas' Andreu Codina said. "There is also a new series of kart-racing engines in the works with rotary-valve and reed-valve intake systems." . The photo above shows a prototype of the four-valve, liquid-cooled four-stroke powerplant. Details about its present configuration are limited, though in the end the company plans to produce the engine in two displacements, 250 and 400cc, and to utilize these engines in both full-endl;.lro mode - so tuned for maximum power - as well as for a range of dual sport machines featuring electric start. The twin-eam engine presently features a balance shaft and fuel injection, though at this stage in development anytlling can change. In order to keep the engine as compact as possible, the cylinder is arranged vertically in relation to the cases. Gas Gas hopes to have the new four-stroke running in a chassis by the International Six-Day Enduro in Brescia, Italy, August 12-17.. Also part of Gas Gas' expanding lineup is the MC250, a motocross-oriented 250cc two-stroke, to compliment its impressive TT250 Enducross enduro machine. One of the more interesting features of the new bike is the linkageless rear suspension, similar in concept to what KTM has been experimenting with since last year in the 500cc World Championship MX Series on its factory bikes. The MC250's perimeter frame is suspended at the front by a WP 50mm Extreme conventional fork, while the rear features a new-style Ohlins shock. The powerplant is based upon the 249cc, 66.4 x 72mm two-stroke that powers the TI250, but features a four-speed transmission.
