Slack. riding in his legendary farm-boy baggies, led the charge down the starting-line
straight and into the hard-left first tum. He
stayed out in front as Ballard, Spaulding and
Garcia closed in toward the top position. On lap
three, Garcia and Spaulding swapped spots, but
on the very next lap Garcia had problems and
lost his advantage, dropping far back in the
standings. The rider on the move was Steve
Swisher, and on the fifth lap he nailed down the
fourth position, ahead of Ross Robertson. Slack
and Ballard began stretching out a lead over the
rest of the class in the late stages of the moto
and, at the finish. it was Slack taking the solid
win. Ballard followed in second, with Spaulding
third, Swisher fourth and Robertson fifth.
Slack's 2-1 moto score earned him the overall
and his first-ever class win. Spaulding's 1-3 was
good for second in the class, while a consistent
3-2 netted Ballard third overall.
