WIN aTRIP to the Kenny Roberts Training Ranch .J in finishing second to Tommy Hedden in the dicap. Second Division and lhird Division ins went to Doug Mignano and Scott Onley, pectively. Dave Faria, making a return to speedway a !(}.year absence and sporting .his brother Mike's familiar number nine, lined up for the the... andicap main event on the IO-yard Hne. lRAVEL CRAFT Behind the soon-to-be-moved-back Faria was Vance Felicio on the 10 and his brother Chad on the 30. Tommy Hedden sat alone on the 40, and side by side back on the SO were Bobby Hedden and Bart Bast. Faria and the Felicios made a decent start, but Hedden and Bast made an even better run at the first tum and quickly moved around or through the pack to assume the two front-running spots by the end of lap three. Hedden did his damage from the outside, while Bast's inside line seemed to be an even quicker route. Closing in on Hedden, Bast unexpectedly parked briefly coming off turn four just before the white flag. That was all the breathing room Hedden needed as he sped' unscathed to the checkered flag. Bast finished a head-shaking second, and third went to the ever-improving Chad Felicio. Results SCR: 1. Bart Bast Oaw); 2. louis KOIIlulh Oaw); 3. Bobby Hedden Oaw}. HOCP; 1. Tommy Hedd~ Oaw); 2. Gifford gifted in Las Vegas Motocross By Dick Goodwin lAS VEGAS, NY, MAY II Dave Gifford parlayed two fast and consistent races into the overall victory in Las Vegas in the 2SOcc Novice division at Las Vegas - a class that seemed to have a lot of fast guys. Mark Hermann blasted out front to get the action started. Shawn Szep and Dusty Schaller were right there as well. Dusty elbowed his way past for the lead at the step-up jump. Justin Geng bobbled ever so slightly before the rockers, allOWing the celebrated Dave Gifford to slide into fourth. Meanwhile, out front, Schaller and Hermann were both acting like they really, really wanted to lead this race. This riveting battle continued for a couple of laps, until Schaller pulled off at the back sweeper. He recovered quickly, but Hermann was long gone. Mark coasted to the easy win, and then it was Schaller, Gifford, Gabriel and Szep in that order for spots two through five. The second stanza featured another Mark Hermann holes hot. Rick Essex and Butch Gabriel were providing the close support this time around. Essex wasted little lime fighting through to the clean air as Dusty Schaller moved up to join the lead pack. Dave Gifford was hanging out, too. On lap two, Hermann, bo.bbled and dropped back. In this class, a deep breath can cost several spots. By laps three and four, Essex was doing it and Gabriel was seconding it, and the rest of the field was just that - the rest of the field. But this race wasn't quite over. Rick Essex went on to win by a conside.rable margin, while Gifford had muscled his way past several tough riders to claim third. On the last lap, he was hammering hard on Gabriel. Butch, of course, wasn't inclined to just pull over and let him by. Their intense ba ttle carried them through the final lap and over the finish line tabletop in a photo finish for second place. Dave Gifford took second and the overall trophy, whHe Butch Gabriel finished just as close as one could p0ssibly get for second overall. . 0'1 Results P/W B: 1. Matthew Hamson; 2.
