(Left) Chiodi traded 1-2 moto scores with puzar for second overall, maintaining his lead In
the series standings.
(Above) Philippe Dupasquier (14) and Claudio Federici (25) dice; Dupasquier led for a while
in the first moto.
(Below) American Bader Manneh sUffered bad starts In Austria.
I suddenly got a pain in my chest. I can't
remember being hit by a rock, but I was
in pain and struggling for breath, so I
had to slow and defend my second
place."
At the finish he was nearly 24 seconds down.
Still puzar had to survive one heartstopping moment four laps from the
end when a lapped rider cut across his
path. The leader was already committed
to the jump and narrowly missed a collision.
Vialle was a race-long third and
fourth after a hard race up the leaderboard with Federici.
'1 got hit from the inside going into
the first corner and that put me down to
seventh," Vialle said. "I took fourth
from Dobb after 25 minutes but the first
three were too far in front."
Oobb had moved quickly to fourth in
the early stages but had to surrender
fifth to Philippe Oupasquier in the closing laps.
"I never had a chance of catching the
top three and there was no point doing
anything silly trying to keep Federici
back," Oobb said. "His Husky was just
too fast. I had Oupasquier under control
until the last few laps when a blister
burst and I was in agony holding on."
Bader Manneh, once the uncrowned
king of the lightning starts, continues to
get out of the gate badly this year on his
Honda from an Italian bike shop and
completed the opening lap 23rd in race
one and 32nd in race two. With one rutted groove through the apex o£.most
turns passing was not easy, but the 30-
year-old, who also won a GP moto at
the Austrian track in 1992, spent most'of
both races trying to rail around the outside of his younger rivals. The tactic got
him to 17th on the last lap of moto one,
and he was 16th entering the last lap of
race two.
"1 had to earn something for all tha t
effort and 1 found a turn to block-pass
Kanstinger on the last lap," Manneh
said.
