.... ~ or '1 don't know why I ran out of gas or why Randy ran out," Lafferty mused. "It was real wet and slick and muddy, so we were .revving the bikes a lot. It was about as close to 40 miles as you can get. I guess I'm a gas hog anyway; I go through gas like nothing. With my reserve I can go another seven or eight miles and Randy can't." As far as the rest of the enduro series goes; Lafferty feels confident abou t his chances for a first-ever AMA National Championship. "I've won three out of four and I got second the other time, 60 you can't ask for a much better start than that. I jus! want to keep the momentum going and keep riding smart. My bike is set up perfectly; [ don't have to do a lot of experimenting like Randy does after he switched from Suzuki to Yamaha. I feel that I have the confidence to just keep going and going now." "Michael is riding really well right now and I can't take anything away from him," Hawkins said. "His confidence is up, he's having fun and he's been having zero problems. II's time to think of it as a whole new series. I've got five races left and I need to beat Mike from here on out if I want to keep this number-one plate. I've also ridden better when I'm behind, when there's a little bit of pressure on me. I just have to keep my head down and keep digging. I usually don't start riding my best until the summer, and iI's almost time. Actually, with the way Mike's·been riding, I don't think any of us have a lot 01 time left."
