ing mood was that of an angry mob. One final section was planned, but then shortened (another swamp was taken out) after the mass carnage in the Bertino section. Many riders could gamble in this remaining section, and a number of them carded zeroes, including Richard Lafferty, Larry Poplin, M. Dean Spencer, Todd Lockhard and a few more. If you were playing it cautious you hung back, and Spence finished with a 1:39, while Groemm carded a 2:58, giving the overall win to Spence. In spite of all the points taken, the club dealt with nearly insurmountable land-use problems that had the course changing literally up to the day before the enduro. Turkey breeding grounds rerouted some sections and Rattlesnake breeding others. New wilderness recreation area designated by the state, encompassing the lands around the Batsto and Mullica Rivers, further cramped the sections east of U.S. 206. Considering how hard they worked to preserve the parts of the course they could use, the club did a miraculous job of running this end uro. Trail boss Kenny Lee Taylor fielded his share of complaints from the 'mud-haters, but overall opinion was that it wasn't as bad as it could ha ve been in the swamp, and it was certainly better than last year.
