he North Carolina State Motocross
Championships are annually held
at Devils Ridge Motocross and
1997's version saw great racing action as
always. Riders ignored the all-day
threat of rain as over 420 riders showed
up from 10 different states to take home
their share of the $20,000 in Amateur
awards and contingencies and the $3000
Pro purse. Kawasaki Suzuki of Durham
rider Bobby Stovall and Suzuki of Gastonia's Jim Chester battled it out and
both came away with a state championship in the Pro classes, with Chester
taking bverall honors in the 125cc A
class and Stovall blasting to the 250cc A
class win.
Chester took both the moto wins in
the 125cc A division but not without a
strong battle from Stovall in both outings, who settled for second. Chester
needed ,these wins because his day
would only get worse in the 250cc class.
Charlotte, North Carolina, has a new
contender in the A ranks named Marcus
Hedrick. Hedrick is learning fast and
piloted his Winters Marketing-backed
RM to two solid third-place rides to
secure the .final podium position.
When the ga te fell for moto one in
the premiere 250cc A class, it was a fourway toss up for the holeshot. Chester
