advertising agency. Advertising is a bit
of a glamour business and a number of
people who I work with are very concerned about wearing the hippest
clothes, seeing the latest "art" movie
(and telling the world about it), reading
Vanity Fair, attending golf and tennis
tournaments, driving a car with an
esteemed emblem and being seen in aU
the right places.
While I consider myself to be a very
loyal and ardent supporter of the sport
of motocross, not many people I work
with are aware of it. That's probably
due to the fact that I've become somewhat secretive about it. Whenever any
of my comrades do become aware of my
interest in the sport, I'm usually confronted with the requisite question: "Oh,
do you also go to tractor pulis and monster truck shows?" From this type of
inquiry, it's pretty apparent that they and a significant number of Americans are not aware of the sport and the mindboggling amount of talent, desire and
determination it takes to succeed in it.
To that end, a few nights ago while
watching ESP ,I was able to see No
Fear's new TV spot featuring Jeremy
McGrath. While I have no idea of who
had a hand in creating it, the way
McGrath - and the image of the sport were presented to mainstream America
made me proud to be a part of it aU.
They really nailed it. Down deep, I certainly hope a few of my co-workers saw
it as well. Perhaps if they did, they will
realize why it means a lotto me.

Good TV
I would like to thank David Bailey for
the awesome job he is doing on the
ESP 2 supercross shows. He tells people how it really is in motocross and
he's got a style that I haven't seen in a
while. He makes us riders feel good
when he actually describes what a rider
is feeling just before the drop of a gate,
getting passed, stuffed, knocked down,
etc. He really talks about it in detail and
that's cool.

Good article
I wou,1 d like to thank you for your
'recent article about Marty Smith (Issue
#10, March 12). The article was very
informative and really helped to highlight the daunting task he attempted. I
would have liked to see a little more
information on where and who Marty is
today. I feel in a sport as young as
motocross racing it is important to focus
on the career and"afterlife" of its superstars. I know this is a problem with
Marty because he is so modest about his
accomplishments.
Marty is my son's coach and as a
result we have spent some time together, but it never ceases to amaze me at
the things I learn about him and his
career from aLticles like yours. Marty,
ancy (his wife) and his family are
great people. In today's world of sports
stars, he is truly a great role model for
the kids he teaches. His work and training ethics are applaudable, as is his ability to motivate kids. Our goal is to be at
Loretta Lynn's this August and it won't
be possible without Marty helping my
sons, I know they wiu be there because
of his coaching and motivation, I am
proud to call Marty Smith my friend.

Good cover II
I was so proud to be a motorcyclist
when I received my April 9 issue of
Cycle News. Prouder still to be a Cycle
News subscriber. I truly feel, to the very
core of my being, that Kinney Jones'
cover photograph of Ezra Lusk launching from the gate at the Orlando Supercross, rivals some of Ansel Adams' best
work. That single picture completely
captured all of the excitement and
accomplishment of that race as I experienced it.
I say this not necessarily because I
am a big Lusk fan, but because I'm a big
motorcycle fan. I feel very fortunate to
have such high-quality motorcycle editorial, race resul t, and beautiful photography delivered to my front door every
single week. I have taken notice of Kinney's work in the weeks past, but that
shot of Lusk was the best I've seen in
any motorcycle magazine - any magazine, period - in many years.
It has been said that a picture is
worth a thousand words so Kinney be
advised - you are in serious violation of
exceeding the allotted number of wordsper-photo statute. However, I would
like it if you continued to have complete
disregard for this and any other laws
governing the 1000-words-per-photo
quota other publications have been stifled by.

Good cover
The April 9 cover was the Cycle News
cover of the decade. Computer
enhanced or whatever, Kinney Jones'
photo of Ezra Lusk is awesome.

Some say it's better to be lucky than good.
Kinney lones is always good, but ill this case
he was lucky too. The cover shot of Lusk's
holeshot was not computer enhanced. It was
simply well thought out and - as Kinney
