Neese won the 12Sec A and 2SOcc A classes as nearly 700 riders competed, without a single injury, for MegaSeries-scale Pro paybacks and Fox products for amateur class racers. Jim's Motorcycle Sales-backed Neese and Yamaha of Kingsport's Kevin Walker traded moto wins in the 12Scc A class. The victory went to Neese when he turned in a flawless second moto ride from holeshot to checkered flag, leaving the runner-up position for Walker and third for Suzuki of Gastonia-backed Jim Chester. Walker leaped to the front of the 250cc A class first-moto start, shadowed by Suzuki of Gastonia's Billy Liles. The two vet riders soon disappeared to take first and second at the finish. By the time the rest of the pack had sorted itself out, Neese would finish third, followed by Chester andJGngsport Suzuki's Jon Boruff. Chester grabbed the second-moto holeshot under pressure from Walker, Neese and Liles, and was able to pull away by about two seconds while the trio squabbled for positions. Tight, intense racing drew attention away from the leader, and halfway through the moto Liles became the first casualty. While trying to duck inside of Walker where there wasn't room, Liles found himself on the ground and watched Walker and Neese blast past. Neese and Walker fed off each other for speed and pulled up within striking distance of the last lap at the top of the fleeing Chester. the stairsteps, the two riders bracketed Chester in a surprise move, Neese on the inside, Walker on the outside, dropping Chester to third. Walker tried to move on Neese for the lead on the rough straightaway but hit a big kicker bump that bucked him off his YZ. Taking his time recovering from the body-slam, Walker did finish the moto, but Neese had crujsed to the win and earned the overall win. Liles got second and Chester ended up third overall. Walker got revenge on Chester and Liles by dominating Over 25 A class.
