AMA GNCC, Atlanta 1st - Rodney Smith 2nd - Steve Hatch Svardvik one fast Swede at CRC Motocross WOULD THE WORD IIWOW!" BE OUT OF PLACE? By Greg Robertson PALMDALE, CA, MAR. 9 Swede Anders Svardvik has combined work and play during his briel visit 10 Southern California and has been successful, at Least in the play portion, as he totally dominated both 250cc Intermediate motos during round two of Cali- fornia Racing Club's Red Cross Charity Series at Los Angeles County Raceway. Svardvik jumped out to an immed.iate lead in the first moto aboard his newly purchased CR250 and within a couple of laps was hounding the lone Pro rider, Tim Telford. Telford is by no means slow in the LACR sand, but Svardvik was able to pass the fellow Honda rider and hold him at bay to win the moto. "[ can go a lot laster, but my arms pumped up," Svardvik said. "I quit as a Pro in 1992. I've been ridin,g enduros in Sweden four or five times a year for the last few years." Ronnie Densford and Robbie Dunham fOllght over second place until Todd Sciacqua came from out 01 the pack to pass them both to hold down the position at the checkers. Densford held on to third over George Merry, who passed Dunham lor fourth. The second mota was a duplicate of the first with Svardvik and Telford going at it head to head the entire distance. This time Telford got the upper hand for the win. Svardvik still seemed pleased with his performance. "This track is good," Svardick said. "I like rllcing in America. You have so many riders here. In Sweden we have about 25 tracks within 100 miles, but we have no riders. [like the tracks in Sweden better, though. We have sprinkler systems almost everywhere. There are showers and places to go into to buy food. Here, you don't even have real toilets." Densford gated second in round two and would continue unchallenged to earn the sec- ond-place trophy. Alvin Zalamea and Sciacqua had a heated battle for third until they collided in a turn. Sciacqua took a soil sample and Zalamea got a face full of Sciacqua's rear tire in the process. Sciacqua regrouped to finish fourth behind Merry for third overall. Results P/W ((}.6): I. Shawn Rhinehart (Yam). P/W (7·9): 1. Ken Slater (Yam); 2. Nicholas Evallll (Yam); 3. Prc$ton Londin (Yam).
