Tonopah, Nevada, on March 29, round
one of the Best in the Desert Silver State
Series. Dave Hamel and Dennis Belingheri (Kaw) finished second, Destry
Abbott and KTM Team Manager Scot
Harden (KTM) finished third, Nick and
Russell Pearson (K1M) finished fourth
and Jeff Capt and Tim Staab (Hon)
closed out the top five overall The duo
of Ty Davis and Paul Krause (Kaw) led
the event until their bike seized.
Team F&S Kawasaki's Mike Metzger
has been training and getting -ready for
the remainder of the AMA National
Motocross and Supercross Series after
breaking a femur in November at the
FIM World Supercross in Paris, France.
Metzger was scheduled to return to racing at the Minneapolis Supercross on
March 15, but had to have emergency
surgery to remove his appendix and gall
bladder after experiencing sharp pains
the week prior to the event. Metzger
says he should be ready to race by the
Hangtown National Motocross in Sacramento, California, on May 4.
Despite leading the Australian Touring
Car Championship for the first time, former 500cc World Champion Wayne
Gardner may be forced to withdraw
from racing due to a lack of funds,
according to Cyete News contributor Darryl Flack. The 37-year-old Gardner won
·his first-ever round of the championship
at Calder Park on March 15 in his Coca
Cola-backed Commodore V-eight, but
says he'll have to reduce his costs dramatically to complete the season. With

AMA Superbike and Supersport road
racer David Roy suffered a separated
shoulder and broken collarbone in a
snow-boarding accident on March 23.
Roy, who missed the opening two
rounds ot the AMA series while recovering from elbow surgery, will be out for
an additional four to six weeks.
An AHRMA 3/B-mile flat track will be
held at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds
in Lancaster, California, on April 6,
marking the first time that motorcycles
have raced at the facility since J.e. Agajanian promoted events there 20 years
ago. The race will be billed as the Ray
Hensley Memorial Race, in honor of the
frame builder who died recently. For
