Lacey okay at Oklahoma State
Motocross Championships
By Malcolm Wood
ELK CITY, OK, MAR 2
Brandon Lacey rode a smart race to outlast a
hard-charging Kenny Bertram to win the 250cc
Expert class at the opening round of the 6th
annual Oklahoma State Motocross Championships at Elk City.
Moto one saw Ricky Petersen take the
holeshot and hold off Lacey for several laps and,
at one point, seemed to slightly pull away for a
short time. However, Lacey had his sights set on
the lead position, not to mention the fact that he
wanted to get away from Kenny Bertram, who
was .,2reathing down Lacey's neck. Bertram
showed Lacey a wheel several times, but a coolheaded Lacey just ignored the hounding and
instead reeled in and passed Petersen. Before the
race was over, Bertram too passed a fading
Petersen.
But Lacey just could not shake the pesky
Bertram. Their battle went down to the wire
with Lacey taking the win and Bertram second.
Petersen held on for the third. A short distance
back finished Earl Kephart.
Lacey again won the second moto to take the
overall win ahead of Bertram and Earl Kephart.
Petersen ended up fourth.
