motos. Moore and Puzar were champions in '94 and '95.
Pre-race favorite Paul Malin, runnerup last year to the dominant TortelJi,
went home without a point. The Brit
had crashed during midweek practice
and hurt his back.
San Diego's Bader Manneh returned
to the class with a six-point haul.
Amazingly, 42 riders, most paying
their own expenses, traveled from
Europe to contest the race.

t was Honda's turn to dominate in
the second round of the World
Championship 250cc MX Series at
Agueda in Portugal and a 25th career
GP success moved defending champion
Stefan Everts into a points tie with opening-round winner Tallon Vohland in the
standings.
The American wa again very fast
but suffered from his poor starts, a
major handicap on a tra~ hardly worthy of championship status. The Yamaha leader caught up to second-placed
Everts towards the end of the first moto
but eventually crossed the line five seconds down after being forced to go off
the single groove in search of an opening.
The first-moto winner had been
Swede Jocke Karlsson on the other HRC
Honda {rom the rival RWJ team as six
red bikes filled out the top 10. It wa a
similar story in race two as Honda took
four of the first six places, only title candidates Marnicq Bervoets, second on
Suzuki, and Vohland, fourth this time,
preventing a whitewash.
Kawasaki's best placings in each
moto was eighth, each time from support riders as the entire factory team
was absent. Remy Van Rees was already
missing in Spain with a dislocated
shoulder, Frederic Bolley had withdrawn from Portugal before leaving the
series opener because of his broken toe,

The return of official Japanese support in the
500cc GP class with the Yamaha
YZM400F caused great interest, particularly
when the four-strokes were rejected several
times at technlcal control for be'lng underweight. They were. finally passed exactly on the
class limit of 224 pounds. a figure unapproached in the class. even by the 360.. for
many years. Denying that the weight failures
had been promotional exercise. Yamaha

we need to .test the accuracy of the scales at
