35+: 1. Rick Perry (Yam); 2. Willis Brock ckson swept both the
oval and snocross courses at the renewed Colden Classic, Labalt Ice Beer Race held at Colden
Lakes Resort.
Jackson showed the Mini class the way
around the tenth-mile oval on his RMBO, holding
off McClure Honda's justin Bradley and his CR.
He then led the snocross main from start to finish, once again beating Bradley to the snowy fin·
ish line.
Behind these two pint-sized Chuck Springsteens, jeffrey Mort and john Basher held a battle royal, passing back and forth .but leaving
Mort in front of Basher for third place on the lap
that counts the most.
Promotor Brian Adams brought back the
Colden ice races following a 1(}.year hiatus. He's
been rewarded with numerous motorcycle racers, eager to race during the long Buffalo area
winter. As six inches of powdery snow fell during the day's activities, approximately 200 snowmobilers watched or raced as well.
.in the Open Expert nocross class, Fred Huff
of Springville did his best to imitate johnny
O'Mara at the 19B6 Motocross Des Nations,
turning the throttle of his RMl25 to its outer
limit and showing all the big bikes the way
around the ice. James Denk of nearby Boston
played the hapless David Thorpe to Huff's
O'Mara, chasing Huff around the half-mile
course and styling with some front-straight, 50mph wh.,e]j.es on his CR5OO.
Bill Snelgrove and his RM250 found the fast
way around the tenth-mile Open Expert oval
main event, ll.icing with none other than Huff
and Darryl jakubowski, who was riding a
Honda four-stroke ice-race machine.
The Open Amateurs provided exciting oval
action as well, with the only bad crash of the day
occurring when Bruce Huddleston tried to use
his four-stroke KTM as an ice auger. The mighty
thumper didn't even crack the ice, but it sent
KTM parts flying and- Huddleston to a hot
shower.
Andrew FISher of Holland led AI Conte, who
brought out a tattered-looking Yamaha IT but
rode the wheels off it to hold onto second ahead
of first-time ice racers Rodney Cyralik and
Tommy Raterman in the Open Amateur race.

his shoulder, Chester pressured Hedrick. who
refused to give an inch. When Chester went for a
block pass and bobbled instead, it looked like
Hedrick would finish in second, with Walker
third. But on the next go-round, Chester blasted
between Hedrick and Walker to take second.
Walker answered with a zinger of his own to
regain the trigger spot with Chester stepping up
to third. They ran out of time to catch Boruff and
finished ",",ond and third to the young warrior.
Boruff also holeshot the 250cc A main, setting up a battle with Walker and Chester.
Halfway through the 14-lap struggle, Walker
.arved through the bowl tum and used the
optional small jump to slingshot past Boruff into
the lead. Yards later Chester ducked inside,
dropping Boruff to third.
Not much later, Chester copied Walker's
jump pass to take the lead and was out of reach
for the rest of the race. Walker and Boruff maintained second and third, with Wallin and Wilson
roullding out the top five.

Vinny Deledda passed Dodds on the opening
circuit to move into fifth, as Silva slipped by
Theis for second.
Fesler opened up a three-second advantage
over Silva and Theis by the end of the third lap.
Fesler's lead lasted for 20 minutes, but with just
two laps to go Fesler's front wheel wellt flat and
ended his race.
This gave Silva the lead and Theis second,
until a hard fall moved Theis back to fifth. Silva
held on for the first-moto win over Franco, who
battled Deledda and Dodds the entire moto.
Theis recovered after his late first-moto crash
to grab the holeshot in moto two with Fesler,
Silva, Dodds and Franco giving chase. Franco
passed Dodds on the first go-round as Fesler pressuned Theis for the lead. Fesler forced his way
by Theis for the lead in a tum on lap three as
Deledda broke into the top five.
Theis then experienced blke problems and
retired from the moto. This moved Silva into the
runner-up spot and Fesler had a huge lead. Fesler cruised out front to score the easy win over
Silva.
The real race was for third among Franco,
Deledda and Dodds. The three riders traded
positions several times in the last three laps,
with Dodds coming out on top over Franco and
Deledda, who finished with a rear flat.
j.B. Ballard dominated the racing action in
the 125cc Youth and 125cc B classes. Ballard
topped both 125c<: Youth motos over Kyle Farnell and in 125cc B, he defeated Marcus Pedrero.
Silva later returned to win both 125c<: A classes
over jason Hiendl.
