come to test their skills in a Florida
enduro. This year, the enduro was sponsored by SETRA and points were paid
in that series. It is not a national, but
nevertheless, some of the best off-road
racers in the country participate - just
for the bragging rights.
This year, Yamaha's Randy Hawkins
is the man who gets to do the bragging.
The Yamaha-sponsored Hawkins
claimed the win with a score of 19.
"The guys did a really good job with
the race," Hawkins said of his ride. '1t
was tough and I had a lot of fun. My
SCR/Pro Circuit/Factory. Connection
Yamaha worked great."
Hawkins' win didn't come without a
bit of controversy, though, as Ty Davis
on his Kawasaki KX250 finished the day
with an 18 - one point less than
Hawkins. (Congoversy seems to follow
these two competitors, as Davis lost out
to Hawkins for the '96 National Enduro
title at the final round in Delaware
under protest.)
Everyone in the Kawasaki pits was
beaming, but it seems that Davis lost his
score card and had to be scored with the
backup sheets. According to the roles,
he was given a two-point penalty for the
lost card, bumping his score to 20 and
handing tbe win to Hawkins. The
Kawasaki pits went from jubilation to
frustration.
"Everyone knows who won here
today, n one of the Kawasaki crew members said. It was not how Davis wanted
to end his otherwise-flawless ride. He
