"I'm beat, but the scenery was grea l I would have liked it to be a bit more technical, but I will be doing more of these." . John Epperly came over from Southern California and thought it was an outstanding ride. "Sand, rocks and a little snow. What more can you want?" Epperly said. Head on top of Denver MX By Tom Hill Photo By Dawn Winczewski DENVER,CO,jAN.12 Consistency paid off for Mark Head in the 125cc B class during Roclcy Mountain Motocross Association Winter Series competition. . Any of the top 10 riders had a shot at the overall, but with three racers accumulating the same five-point total, Head won the overall with consistel)t third- and second-place moto finishes. In the first moto, former miiti speedster jeff Boone got the holeshot. On a 125 for the first time, Boone looked right at home as he led the Hrst lap around the l.1-mile, somewhat technical north track at the Watkins l'amily Raceway. But, on his tail from the start, Mike Maddock slipped by when Boone bobbled in a comer. Maddock led for five laps, but went down in the back section halfway through the seventh lap, and Boone was right there to take advantage. Maddock was back on his bike quickly, los- ing just the one spot to Boone, but with .only four laps to go, Boone motored to an easy finish. In the second moto, it was Boone with the holeshot again. This time it was Scott Burris, in the number-two spot, who capitalized on Boone's second-lap mistake. Head pulled into second at the same time and it was Bums and Head for the rest of the second moto. Head, Haddock, Boone and Burris took the top four spots overall with 3-2, 2-3, 1-4 and 5-1 finishes. RMXA Winter Series first-round winner josh Murphy rounded out the top fi ve with 4-6 finishes. On the south track in the 60cc (9-11) class, the order was Mall Burris, Brady Sharp, Brad Alarid, Adam Harvey and Lance Hiser from start to finish. 1bat makes for pretty boring racing for anyone but the moms and dads, but the crowd was glued to this class as Burris and Sharp cleared the spectacular 9O-foot tabletop jump lap after lap. From a distance, those 60s look like big rocks being launched out of a catapult. Air lime is about four seconds and heights can top 20 feet, but these kids landed smoothly every time.
