At the checkered flag, Deegan jumped off his bike and his Suzuki ghost-rode across the finish line as the fans went completely wild. It was the most awesome flllish I have ever seen. It was several minutes until the crowd quieted down enough for the interviewer to interview Deegan on the podium. After the 250cc main, we made our way down to the Team Moto XXX box van to get an autograph from Deegan. It was then that we heard that the AMA was going to fine him $1000 for his finish-line maneuver. From what I understand, the winner of the 125cc main takes.home a whopping $1000 - which leaves Deegan with nothing. I would like to see the AMA rule that states: "A rider cannot jump off his bike as he crosses the finish line." According to the announcer, there were approximately 46,000 in attendance. This means - at $25 per seat there was a near $1.1 million worth of tickets sold. Where does all tha t money go? Obviously, by fining Deegan his. purse money, someone else's pockets got a little deeper.
