Top Texans honored at
Cross Country banquet

GARLAND, TX, DEC. 15
The 1996 awards banquet for the Texas Cross
Country Racing Association (TCCRA) drew
over 600 people to the Hella Shriners Temple.
With a growing membership of over 1,000, 30
different classes now make up the organization.
Trophies were handed oul to the top six riders
in each class.
Besides the individual class awards, several
other notable achievments were acknowledged.
Clay Hoenshell won the Len Rossman award for
attaining the most points among Expert riders.
Hoenshell had bad luck in round one, but then

went on to record 14 straight wins in the Pro
class.

Over 30 Expert David Koontz scored nine
Expert overalls while his archrival Dana Wright
caught five overalls. The Overall Intermediate
trophy went to Over 45 rider David Neilsen,
who competed on a Yamaha 250.
The Frank Johnson Memorial was taken
home by 250cc Amateur Danny Souder for earning the most points in the Amateur ranks. The
Minis/Ladies overall was accepted by Mini
expert Bryan Miller.
. Husband and wife Danny and Alice Flowers
were honored to receive the prestigious Ralph
Brockway Sportsmanship Award. The Flowers
started the new 50cc class that was run on Saturdays. With the help of volunteers, they laid out
the courses, handled scoring and even came up
with year~d trophies and prizes for the Pee
Wees. For the first time, the membership voted
on the the best track of the year. Promoter Douglas Richards' race at South Bryson got the edge
over 15 other layouts. And for the fourth year in
a row, a toy drive was held at the banquet. The
TCCRA's effort rounded up several hundred
toys for the needy children in the Garland area.
