L.A. SUPERCROSS really good friends, too. Then he worked with Jeff Stanton and with Ryan Hughes, of course. So I've been arounti Wyatt a lot over the years. You know, there's not a lot of good, experienced mechanics out there to choose from, and I don't know how it worked out with Wyatt that he was available, but I feel really fortunate that he was out there right when he was and I think we're going to make a reaHy good team together. He's someone T can trust, and that's a big relief right now because I "I'm very happy because I feel like me again and I know I can win." was str-uggling with mechanics there for a while after Skip left. I was a little bit worried about who I would' be working with, but not now. Have you discussed this move to Suz~ ki with Skip? I talk to him on a regular basis and he's stoked about all this, for sure. Every other rider out there now, from Jeff Emig to Mike Kiedrowski, must now feel like the playing field is even again. Who do you see closest in your rear view mirror, or do you think it's going to just be the same? r hope it's just the same. I know that I'm going to win races, and I really don't see why it won't be the same. I know that there's some people out there that think that Jeremy McGrath is such a great rider because of the bike that he was on, but I'm sure that Jeremy McGrath is a' great rider because of myself, my will to win, and my own abilities. Honda gave me everything they could to help me, but if you don't have it as a rider, you just don't have it. Suzuki is going to do the same for me - they're going to give me everything I need to go ou t there and win. This will finally give you a chance to prove that it was rider, not just bike. I mean, if you become the first guy to win on a Suzuki after all of these years, who's going to be able to argue with that? Yeah, 1 realJy believe that, that winning on this bike will be even better for me. . But the flip side to that is that if I don't win on this bike, well, that doesn't matter because I'm sure that 1will win. Have your goals for 1997 changed now? My goal is to go out and do exactly what T did every other year, and that's win. The only difference is the unknown factor. 1 mean, I'm really looking forward to racing this bike, but until that happens next weekend in LA, nobody knows what's going to happen. But my immediate goal is the supercross title. What about your long-term goals: Have they changed? You know, the more I get involved in this team thing, the more I think about what it might be like to one day have riders myself and be my own team manager. Right now I have great sponsors and they're all really behind me. That's kind of how road racing works, with guys like Kenny Roberts. If it works out for me that way, it's going to change the sport and it's going to be awesome because it can only make the sport bigger and better. I guess you've already answered the bottom line, but here it is itgain: Can you win on the bike and are you happy? I'm very happy because I feel like me again and I know 1can win. l~ January 11 and January 18 Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum ..
