Daniel does it at UEA Enduro
By Ron Pocher
RED MOUNTAIN, CA, NOV. 17
Training Wheels Motorcycle Oub member Rick
Daniel used seasoned timekeeping tactics and a
fair dose of speed to claim the overall win at the
United Enduro Associaton's Not So Tuff-E-Nuff
Enduro held near Red Mountain, California.
Experts, Amateurs and Novices all were
required to ride the full 84-mile event, which
had various types of terrain and speed averages
ranging from 6 to 60 mph.
The 44-mile first loop was routed through
the notoriously rough Spangler Hills riwng area
where riders were required to negotiate aU the
usual obstacles. The loop had an average speed
of 25 mph and racers hit an observation check
just before the special test that contained the 60
mph section.
The 40-mile second loop was both technical
and rocky and had a great deal of virgin trails
for a District 37 event. The average speed for
this circuit was 27 mph, which was a torrid pace
consi~ering the terrain. The high-speed trails
used in the final eight miles had the desert racers in attendance grinning from ear to ear.
Daniel hit the tie-bre.aker checks with the
most consistency and thus just edged Team
Green star Paul Krause 3.0171 to 3.0185. Daniel
won the Vet A 250cc class on his lMS Yamaha
while Krause captured the Open A trophy.
Erik Mattson was third overall and first
250cc A at 3.0203. Bill Fullmer Jr. rode his Team
Green KLX to first Four-Stroke A and fourth
overall with a score of 3.0216.
Team Green's Dana VanStee rounded out
the top five with 3.0221 to take the win in the
200cc A class. The top B rider was Casey Patterson, and Paul Morneault was the highest finisher
in the C division.

Harbison happy at CRC MX
By Greg Robertson
PALMDALE, CA, DEC. 15
Steve Harbison used a 1~4 score to snatch the
125cc Begi.nner-class win on the I.B. Memorial
Track during the California Racing Club's final
race of the year, the final round of the annual
Trophy Series, at the Los Angeles County Raceway.
Chaz Smith was well on his way to the firstmoto win until he went down in a turn on lap
five. A recent arm injury prevented Smith from
quickly remounting his bike and he dropped
back to seventh place. Harbison, who was running second up to this point, easily picked up
the win. Mini rider Brent Gilliam worked up
from a midpack start in his 125cc debut to finish
.
third behind Raymond Smith.
Chaz Smith returned with a vengea.nce to
smoke the field for the second-mota win. Harbison ran as high as second at one time in the
moto, but could only manage a fourth-place
showing at the checkers, which was still good
enough for the overalL Consistent 3-3 finishes
earned Gilliam the second-place trophy over
Sean Fenton's 5-2 rides.

(Right) Ronnie Densford took top honors
In the 250cc Intermediate class at Los
Angeles County Raceway.

The 250cc Intermediate class belonged to
Ronnie Densford. Densford got around fast
starters Michel Becke in the fiIst mota and
Richard Stephans in round two for a couple of
convincing wins. Nick Mairose held off Jose
Ar.ce in both races for second overall.
