"I'm just out playing today and getting back
up to speed after my shoulder surgery," the 1993
Mammoth Mountain 250cc Junior winner said.
In moto one, Fortier started out slow, then,
one by one, passed every rider on the track: for
the win. In moto two, Fortier was all business on
his Kawasaki. He holeshot and lapped nearly
every rider on the long Lemon Grove course
while putting on an air show for the people
watching.
On the Mini track, action was wild with the
. combined Superstock/Limited SOcc class. Jason
Endo, the '95 Ministars champ, went head to
head with '96 Pee Wee National winner Billie
Ballesters. Endo took the holeshol in moto one
with Bal1estero in tow, followed by Dustin Davis
and Jared Su1Iada.
By lap six, Endo could nol lose the very fast
Ballestero as he slammed Endo lap after lap. At
the end of the IIHap battle, Endo led by a wheel,
followed by Ballestero, Sullada, Davis and
Myles Nall.
The stage was set for a bar-banging fight in
moto two. Ballestero was smoking the rear
wheel as the gate dropped and he rocketed in 10
the lead With Endo all over him, the pair never
more than five feet apart.
At the molo's end, Ballestero kept his Yamaha PW50 out front for Ihe moto win and the
overall in the Umited, followed by Davis and
Nall in the 4- to &-year-old class. Endo won the
7- 10 8-year-old Supetslock and Su1Iada took the
7- to 8-year-old Umited win.
