Birch Creek Motorsports capped off a great year
of racing with the final round of the US. Eastern
Pro-Am Fall Motorcross Series, where North Carolina rider Jim Neese picked up a quick $400 with
a sweep of the 125cc Pro and 250cc Pro divisions.
Neese had a healthy 125cc class to contend
with as he fought off a strong 15-rider field. His
sweep of both motos came at the expense of
ream Green pilot Mitchell Hodges. Hodges kept
constant pressure on the Jim's Cycle
Sales/backed Neese in both outings to secure a .
strong runner-up finish overall.
All three of the front 12See pilots came back
to do battle in the 250cc Pro class. Neese played
catch-up to Hodges as the first moto took shape
and Hodges took command early.
Scottie Shipley was breaking in his brandnew aluminum-framed '97 CR250 nicely as he
nailed down third over the pack of Allen Alford,
Chad Newton and Chris Anstead. About the
same time Neese worked past for the lead up
front, Garylon Dickson started to move into the
picture, moving past Newton and Anstead and
making his presence known to A1fQrd. .
Alford slipped out of the top five, and
passed Dickson Shipley to grab third in moto
one as Hodges was long gone. Neese was even
further off. Shipley easily held onto fourth over
Newton.
Dickson was not about to get caught sleeping as moto two of the 250cc Pro class roared off
the gate, and he made up for his poor first start
with a strong holeshot. Neese tucked into second. Hodges bobbled at the lOp of Mount Deacon, dropping him from third to 14th at the start
of lap one. Hodges would come back with a brilliantcharg~howeve~
Neese said "see y"" on the end of lap two.
Dickson kept a steady pace all the way to the
checkers and upheld the second postion. This
would give him one up on Hodges, second
aboard the 125cc machines, with a second overall.
Hodges' blazing charge back through the
pack saw him pick off everyone but the top two
riders, netting a third in both the moto and the
overall. Shipley was the last rtder in Hodges'
quest, so he turned in another fine ride to eam a
pair of fours, edging out the two fifth-place performances of Newton.
