Arenocross '9& 1005/5 /lena field made it to the first turn. Willoh got the holeshot ahead of Lewis, Holland, Johnson and Tiearney, all battling for second and third. Many riders had mixed results on the whoops, which were deeper than last year, making it harder to skip across them. Johnson moved into third in the early laps, while Lewis stalked Willoh. Riders were having fun doing a~ria1 maneuvers over the triple and finishline jumps, which kept the crowd in awe. Team Kawasaki's Casey Johnson won the 250cc main event Friday night for a total of four wins in the West Coast Challenge between the San Francisco Cow Palace and the Reno event. The sixth annual Arenocross, with its $10,000 Pro purse, drew talented riders from as far north as Washougal, Washington, down to the best of the best from Southern California. Even Tommy Shibayama from Japan was on hand to mix it up with the best. The event raised over 1,000 coats for needy kids in northern Nevada, as well as featuring a fund-raiser for the support and research of neurofibromatosis and matching the local Fireman and Police Benefit Fund. Lewis, Johnson, Jeff Willoh, Justin Tiearney, Rusty Holland and Ryan Huffman set the stage for Friday night's 125cc main event. The top heat winners were joined by Terrance Malam, Greg Schnell, Ryan Terlecki and Mike Healey from the semis and Scott Davis and Shaun Perolio from the LCQ. Lewis nailed the holeshot in the 12Scc maip with Johnson, WiJloh and Huffman on the charge. SplitFire's Johnson and new Team Noleen rider Willoh battled throughout the race in second and third positions. Willoh took second over Johnson in the early laps and held his lines on the tight stadium track. Huffman was running behind Johnson and was on the charge until lap 10, when he traded paint with Perolio after the tabletop finish jump. Huffman got the worst of it, crashing out and breaking his collarbone. Lewis took the checkered, with Johnson second, Willoh third, Perolio fourth and Holland fifth. Holland took Friday's 2S0cc mainevent ho1eshot with Perolio and Japan's Shibayama following. Positions changed drastically by midrace' as Johnson passed Perolio and Holland to take over the lead. Johnson kept the lead while Lewis moved into second by the finish. Perolio finished an impressive third over Holland and Terlecki. Saturday night's show included a jump contest in which 16-year-old Jiri Dostal won over Johnson, Willoh and Jake Windham. Dostal performed magnificent aerial heel-clickers and can-cans over the triple jump. The 12Scc main event Saturday was held in front of a sellout crowd. Lewis, Johnson, Willoh, Terrance Malam, Scott Davis and Healey transferred to the main from the heats, while Tiearney, Holland, Perolio and Terlecki transferred from the semis.
