Kawasaki Winter Warmup Series will begin at Castaic in Southern California, November 17, followed by round two at the new Lemon Grove MX Park in Piru, California, with the third round scheduled for Hungry Valley in Gorman, California. Malcolm Smith Motorsports will hold its fourth annual dual sport ride on Sunday, November 17, in the San Jacinto' Mountains of Southern California. The ride will feature roughly 150 miles of trails and roads laid out by Malcolm Smith with challenging A sections with B section alternatives. Trade Tech motorcycle repair alumni and faculty will hold a reunion banquet and show at the Brookside c.c. restaurant at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, November 30. The reunion will mark 30 years of the motorcycle repair program at the trade school in . A total of $10,000 was awarded to the top eight riders in the AMA Fall Classic Motocross Series by a trio of companies that supported the series. Series champion Mike Brown was awarded $3,000 from a bonus fund created by Dirt Shirts, Pro-Action and Karcher. . The Harley-Davidson Motor Company and American Suzuki have signed on as sponsors of the 1996 AMA Awards Banquet which will be held on November 16 at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Harley and Suzuki join other banquet sponsors Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Glen Helen Raceway, K&K Insurance, Spring Creek Motocross, Pace Motorsports and the American Motorcycle Institute. Bike Week, the weekly motorcycle show tha t airs on Speedvision and is hosted by Larry Maiers, is doing a feature on Cycle News Online. The show will air Friday, November 29, at 7 p.m. (Eastern). Check your local listings. FMF Racing will hold a test day November 23 in Ocala, Florida, for those wishing to warm up for the Florida Mini Olympics. The 16th Annual San Luis Toy Run will be held on Sunday, December 1, beginning in Vila Beach, just north of Pismo Beach, California, at 11:30 a.m., and ending at the Pozo Saloon in Pozo, California. The Gold Wing Riders Association will sponsor a Christmas Toy Ride to collect toys for the Salvation Army on November 16. According to WERA, its 1997 National Challenge Series will continue in 1997 with very few changes over the 1996 series. The program will continue to feature the National Endurance Series on the Saturday of each race weekend and 10 National Challenge Sprints on Sunday. The Sprint Series classes will include Formula 1, Formula 2 and 125cc GP offering a .minimum purse of $30,000 for the 10-race series. There have been 25 bumps this year, up three from 1996. Some of the more noteworthy changes include youngster Paul Lynch, who will campaign National number 19 next year; Recil Hart, who grabs the number 32 vacated by Mike Hale; and Rookie of the Year J.R. Scjmabel, who will now be National number 33. Other additions include Tommy Hayden, who is now number 90; Canadian Scott Buchan, who has grabbed Larry Pegram's number 72; Greg Teague, who will now wear the number 58 formerly used by Dave Durelle, and Randy Shank II, who now carries the Natio"nal number 92 formerly associated with the late Rodney Farris. Seals Communications Corporation will be presenting coverage of the 1996 Incas Rally by Acerbis. The MotoWorld and MW2 production crews are currently in Peru to document a lO-day "madefor-television" odyssey. The rally will showcase racing in the Andes Mountain, the Amazon basin as well as the coastal desert, but neither Sealsco nor Acerbis are saying exactly what's going on down there and which off-road stars have teamed up to ride. This one-hour edition of MotoWorld will be hosted by Bob Varsha. Menard is the sole owner of Menard Inc., a midwest regional chain of lumber and home improvement stores based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The 120-store chain had fiscal 1995 sales of more than $2.5 billion. Menard also owns Team Menard, an IRL team based in Indianapolis. ISC operates Daytona International Speedway; MRN Radio, the nation's largest independent sports radio network; the Daytona USA motorsports attraction in Daytona Beach; Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina; Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama; and Tucson Raceway Park in Arizona. Krause awasaki Team Green riders Ty Davis, recently crowned AMA National Hare & Hound Champion Greg Zitterkopf and Paul Krause teamed up to win the 29th running of the SCORE Tecate Baja 1000 in Ensenada, B.C., Mexico, Friday, November 8-10. The trio covered the 714.6-miJe course in 14 hours, 11 minutes and two seconds with an average speed of 50.381 miles per hour on a Kawasaki KX500. The win was the third for Krause, the first for Zitterkopf and the fourth for Davis. The Honda team of Johnny Campbell and Jeff Capt, aboard a Honda XR600, took second, finishing approximately 14 minutes behind the winning Davis/Krause/Zitterkopf team. Taking·third-place honors was the winning 250cc team of Steve Hengeveld and Jason Kawell, aboard a Team Green Kawasaki KX250. Fourth overall went to another Kawasaki team of Tim Morton and Ronnie Wilson, followed by Team Honda's Fred Willert and Tim Staab. Officials at International Speedway Corporation (ISC) announced on November 11 that they have begun consideration of the feasibility of developing a new motorsports facility in the Chicago area. Although discussions are preliminary and no agreement has. been reached, the proposed faciti ty bei ng considered would be a joint venture between I~C, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation and John Menard.
