~~_r---------- - -------~~ them, but 1 really wanted to get one more win." Plessinger had won the last two rounds of the series going into the finale. . With Plessinger no longer a threat his steering dampener had been locking up on him all afternoon - and Conner on cruise control, Smith and Summers went about the business of deciding the win. Smith had been in control for most of the day and, other than a few sorties by Summers, was able to maintain control for most of the way. "After we left the barrels the last time Scott pulled away from me a little bit, but then he made a mistake," Smith said of the final sprint to the finish. "He let me get back by and 1 was in control again. The whole last lap 1 just wasn't taking any chances and it worked out my way." "1 got behind a lapper on the last lap and Rodney got completely out of sight," Summers said of the waning moments of the battle. "1 was just working my butt off to catch back up and make a pass. About 50 yards from the finish there was a little ditch and 1 was thinking 1could make the pass there but Rodney must have had the same idea because he moved over into my line. He rode a really smart race." "1 really didn't need to come here today, but the win was real important for my team," Smith added. "I've been out on the road for five weeks and 1 have one more race tomorrow (Sunday afternoon's final round of the AMA ational Enduro Series) before 1 finally get a break. Winning today will make the drive home a whole lot better." c:N Ironman GNCC Crawfordsville, Indiana Results: October 26, 1996 (Round 13 of 13) O/A: 1. Rod.ney Smith (Suz); 2. Scott Summers (Hon); 3.
