Securing the title early last year may have hu:t Davis this year. By electing not to rIde Delaware last Year, Davis had to defend his championship while riding this event for the first time. Despite the controversy, the enduro was perceived as an excellent event. It didn't offer anything that was too technical, but did offer challenging terrain that couldn't be ridden quite as fast as the given speed average. "This is a good enduro, a real enduro," Hines said. "I never do too wen here, but it is a good enduro." Hines' bike suffered a seized lower rod bearing at about the same place as Haw~' bike broke. Hines had enough solid finishes to secure fourth overall in the yearend standings. KTM's MichaeJ Lafferty, who has locked up third overall in the standings, aJso had mechanical probl.ems and was unable to finish. The rising star had hoped for a top finjsh to end his best year and to help celebrate his 21st birthday.
