(Left) Robbie Dunham won both 250cc Intermediate motos In CRC motocross action In Palmdale, California. (Above) Jim Neese (61) took the 125cc A win at Lake Sugar Tree MX In Axton, Virginia. "I got a bad start and had to work through the pack, and the track's rough:' explained the 27-year-old rider who secured third in the season's points race with the win. In the 125cc A class, the FMF-sponsored rider posted moto scores of 1-2 for first overall. Todd Stith captured the Vet A win after leaving motocross four months. ago for flat track rac- ing. Dunham, Densford dominate atCRC Motocross By Greg Robertson PALMDALE, CA, OCT. 13 Yamaha riders Robbie Dunham and Ronnie Densford swept the 250cc 1ntermediate and \.0 0\. 0\ ,....; \.0" I-< Cl) "S 6 Cl) z 38 250cc Novice classes, respectively, during the California Racing Club's Sunday motocross at Los Angeles County Raceway. Nick Mairose started things off by nailing tbe first 250cc Intermediate moto holeshot aboard his new YZ250. Shane McElwaney gated second, but within a lap was passed by Dunham. MOOrase cruised out front for a couple of laps before coming up short on a Shadow Glen course triple jump and going down hard in the sand. Dunham inherited the lead, which he would hold over McElwaney until the finish .. Mairose limped home on a severely tweaked bike for third. Round two saw Dunham get the start and quickly pull away hom McElwaney. Dunham . looked to have the win in the bag until his handlebars loosened up and dropped down with tbe crossbar nearly hitting the gas tanl<. McEIwaney dosed in on the cramped Dunham and dogged him all the way to the finish to make him work for the win. Densford totally dominated the opening 250cc Novice moto, going uncontested wire to wire for the win. Chris Honnold looked good aboard his new KX250 as he got around Cole Townsend for second, but he couldn't quite match Densford's pace. Densford duplicated his first-moto performance with a convincing second-moto win. Honnold stayed a little closer this time as he got used to the new bike. Townsend came across in th ird again. Erik Anderson picked up the 125cc Pro firstmoto win. Lex Malan was all over Anderson before going down hard in a comer just a couple of laps i.nto the race. Malan returne~ with a vengeance to just plain outrun Anderson in moto two to collect the Pro payback. Results P/W «().6}: 1. Billy Ballesters (Yam); 2. Neese nails Lake Sugar Tree Motocross By Jay and Sharon Hauser AXTON, VA, OCT. 13 Jim Neese took advantage of the nearly perfect conditions at Lake Sugar Tree Motocross to score two overall wins at the sixth round of the U.S. Eastern Pro-Am Motocro s Fall Series. The Jim's Motorcyle Sall!S-backed rider's day was no walk in the park, though. Team Green's Mitchell Hodges led the way at the start of the first 250cc Pro moto. Neese took over the point before tbe end of lap one but threw the lead away when he stalled at the bottom of the frootside downhill jump. Shane Templetoo had been watching all the action from third as he held off Allen Alford and Jamie Fraizer. As Hodges and Neese went at it, Tilden Styron and Honda cif High-Point rider Scottie Shipley started to work their way into the top five. Styron displaced Fraizer, then Alford, but was stonewalled once he reached Templeton. Hodges got one more break as Neese suffered brake problems, and it was all Hodges needed to secure the first-moto win. Neese held onto second while Templeton remained in third. Shipley was a little slower to move up, but did work into a respectable fifth behind Styron by moto'send. Neese took the holeshot of the second 250cc Pro moto and shook the field by the end of lap one. While Neese had the point under control, the battle to sort out the top five was much the same style dogfight as in moto one. Hodges worked into second soon off the gate with Styron running in third. Templeton now had the unfortunate task of trying to hold off Alford and Shipley, the 30+ A winner. Shipley didn't let the fact that he had already run five motos so far during the day and looked as &esh as ever as he worked his way past Alford and Templeton by the end of the moto. eese took th.e win he needed to net the overall for the day as Hodges came home with a solid second. Styron's third place ride put him in the final podium postion. Results 50 (4-6): 1. Brad Haar (KTM): 2. [)evon Pilkington (KTM); 3. Brett Chatman (LEM);4. Ryan Smith (Yam); S. Tyler Gantt (KTM).
