ing to get his front end down after landing wrong off the third jump and it hurt his time. Glen Petty Jr. wasn't able to better his first-run time and he ended the day in eighth behind Zander. Price turned a 7.698-second run for fifth overall, finishing up a great season, his first on the 800cc machine. Bobby Templeton, the 1996 800cc Rookie of the Year, put in two smooth rides on his first visit to Oregonia but, like his brother Michael in the 540cc class, he wasn't able to crack the top 10. Everyone was standing as Gerencer launched up the hill. The Indianan was going all out when he got a little sideways over the third jump and he had to back off to stay in bounds. It cost him his chance at the win and the 7.413-second run relegated him to second. The last rider of the event was Wallace Fowler. He ran an 8.343 on his first run but his Casto Cycle Sales team turned some wrenches before his second ride and he made the most of it. Fowler cranked his Slizuki GSXR-based machine to the stops and put in the ride of his pro career. The West Virginian nearly hit the timing lights at the top of the hill, but he kept it in bounds for a 7.634-second effort and fourth overall the best finish of his career. "Having my friends here helped my confidence a lot and 1 rode better the second ride," Wallace said as he looked forward to next season. Rodney Williams, number three in 1995, also was thinking of 1997. "We're going all the way next year, going after the title," he said. Another rider who will be a front-runner in 1997 is Mickey Dent, Gerencer's teammate. Dent finished the season second overall. ''lbat's what 1came here to do," Dent said. "It just wasn't my day today. 1 wanted to get in the top three today and it didn't work out." Gerencer wasn't too disapointed with his day. "I could have finished one spot higher," the champion said. "Still, 1 got what 1wanted - the championship." Dresser was happy about his victory but had hope for more from his season. "I would rather have won another championship, but it's hard when you miss three races," said Dresser, who is looking toward next year. "I was talking to Lou: He had it (the number-one plate) last year, and 1 had it this year, now he hasit. So next year should be my year."OI' Dayton Me Oregonia, Ohio Results: October 13, 1996 (Round 10 of 10) S4O: PRESENTED BY l.A!...L.""~0 J q =t =t A!J JJSU~ATKI HIGH·FLOW AIR FILTERS Come and See the Legends of YesfelYear Racing for all the Fame & GlolY! 1W:£7EI:H e CO-SPONSORED BY I!JfE3 ~ I ~ WISE.CD I ~ ~ ~ ATK ""~W~_ .. ~D&Yrrr~ M!ll'M! ~CTi2 -~. eti!$ 0 . lJ1@j9dQ,' &J1l1l/lJ) I~R~" iII_ .
