top-10 finish, as his 6.720 was fast enough to edge Smith for eighth. Jason Petty nipped Gabriel by .0001 of a second to claim fifth place. "1 had a good day, a b.ig change from the last hillclimb," Petty said. "Everything went well. 1 kept the front end down and stayed safe." Dent dropped his time down to 6.358 on his second nul for fourth overall. "1 picked up points on Tom (Reiser) and Willie (price) for second place in the series," Dent stated. "1 had two good rides today and if 1 finish in the top 10 at Oregonia, we'll have first (Gerencer) and second wrapped up." . Gerencer clinched the championship when Dent wasn't able to beat his time. Round-nine winner Price had a terrible day, finishing well behind the leaders. Wallace Fowler put together a nice ride on his second run and, despite a minor bobble over the first jump, he still picked up a 6.599-second run on his GSXR Suzuki for seventh place. As the . got faster, Dingee was ready. "We just put in a. good one on the first ride, getting the feel of the hill and the bike," Dingee said. He put together a great run, eclipsing Gerencer's time with a 6.179-second nul to take over the lead. "The second ride 1 rode. a little bit harder," Dingee said after his run. "1 knew we had a quick ride but 1 didn't think we would beat Lou's first-run time." Dresser also moved up in the results with a 6.232-second ride. "1 went nice and smooth over the first part, then 1 got sideways," Dresser said. "1 stayed in it and got third today, a little less than one tenth of a second off the pace." This day, however, belonged to Lou Gerencer. With the championship in hand, he came out for his second ride. "1 felt better than the last race at Middlebury and 1 wanted to win," Gerencer said. He capped off the day with a scorching run up the hill to take the victory. "The hill got better and 1 saw how much everyone improved," the new champ said. His time of 6.167 could have been better, "1 shut off a little too much at the bottom of the hill," he added. c:N While Rose Me JeIIerson, Pennsylvania Results: September 29, 1996 (Round 9 of 10) 540: 1.
