ish, placing Lindsey on the ground as Wollaston took the checkered. Johnson led Sandell out of the start area in their match. As Johnson took the high side of a berm, Sandell shot across the track and squared off, forcing Johnson to back off enough for Sandell to gain the lead, which he held. The next heat pitted Morgan against Atkins, who took the holeshot. Again the whoop would come into playas both riders gave it their all. Morgan looked to be the winner when Atkins drove to the right, hitting Morgan and placing him 00 the ground inches away from the finish. Three riders remained for the third heat and Atkins drew the bye. Wollaston grabbed the holeshot ahead of Sandell. Over the pitside doubles, they headed for the sweeping right turn where Sandell took advantage of the inside line and was off in first. Wollaston tucked tight into the comer after the triples and passed Sandell, who regained the lead as they flew over the small doubles and into the sand pit. Wollaston tried another pass with an extremely tight right-hand tum and lost an argument with a hay bale as Sandell moved onto a chance at the $3,000 payout. Atkins led early in the final with Sandell close on his heels. As Sandell swung wide to lingshot himself out of the comer after the pitside doubles, Atkins, with too mu.ch drive on the inside, lost control and went down hard. By the time he had recovered, Sandell was well on his way to the win. Results 50 NOV: l. Thomas Suman (Cob); 2. Kyle Cohrs (KTM). P/W NOV- 1. Brandon RISk (K.lw); 2. Nic Achey (Kaw); 3. Thomas MILTON, FL, SEPT. 21 Jeff Jessup stole the show in the final round of the West Florida MX Park's Summer Supercross Series. His come-from-behind second in the heat race and first in the Vet C main event won the battle for the night, but more importantly, it vaulted him from third to first in the series points standings. The Vet C series was hotly contested with no q'lo(e then six points' separating first through Hurd positions. R&R Racing's Dana Barberi took the heatrace holeshot, followed by Jessup, FWB's Gill McLane and GPE's Jason Gentry. Series points leader McLane quickly zapped Jessup and on lap three moved to Barberi's rear fender, then sailed by on the infield tabletop triple. However, McLane had a small tip-over that allowed most of}he pack by and set up the finishing order of Billy Whitley topped the 125 and 250cc Expert classes at Cedar Hill Motocross Park in Magnolia, Arkansas. Barberi, Jessup, Roy Dean. Gentry and Mclane. As the Vet C main event started, Barberi again took the holeshot, followed by McLane, Jessup and Gentry. The first lap saw Dean pass Gentry and Jessup to take third. McLane flew past Barberi on a large step-up to take the lead. Oean aimost immediately jumped by Barberi on a large double, and Dean and Barberi traded places several times. Jessup made an inside move on Dean in the tum after the whoops. On the third lap, Dean jumped past Jessup on a large step-up only to have Jessup jam underneath him a few turns later to take charge of third. As the race wore on, fatigue seemed to play a part. First, Dean went down in a slow turn, giving Gentry the break he needed to begin a charge on Jessup. On lap four, McLane nosedived into the face of a jump. He went down hard and got up very slowly. Barberi moved into first with Jessup on his rear fender. Jessup dug deep and charged into the lead using an inside Line. Jessup pulled away to the checkers, taking the main-event win and the series championship. Barberi followed, with Gentry, Dean and McLane rounding out the top five for the night. Results P/W B: 1. James Stankard, Mathews makes it a double at Roebling Vintage Road Race By Van Funchess FAULKVILLE. GA. SEPT. 28 Mike Mathews took the Vinlage Two and Vintage One wins at the WERA Vintage races held at Roebling Road Raceway. Rixon Breckon took runner-up honors in the Vintage One race. He and Mathews both rode Honda CB3S0s. The WERA Vintage One class now has two divisions, including one fOT 1966 and earlier machines made obsolete by the domination of the CB350. Royce Eaton on a Ducati 350 was the victor here while placing fourth overall within the Vintage One dass. Mathews edged out Tim Joyce at the finish line in the Vintage Two class for his second win of the day. This ballie went down to the wire as both men traded the lead throughout the race. Mathews' Honda 450 held the speed advantage over Joyce's Triumph 500, which was very aggressive in the back sections of the track. Mathews led the first two laps until Joyce passed him on the outside of tum two during the third lap. Mathews overtook Joyce near the end of the front straightaway, but after the finish line. This was the formula for the best race of the day. If Joyce could pass in the back section it appeared that he possessed enough motor to hold Mathews off. The lead changed time and again with Mathews able to reel Joyce in on the long front straight. The last lap found Mathews leading Joyce with both men D}oving up to encounter lapped traffic. Joyce passed Mathews and a lapped rider, underbraking going in to turn three. The expected did not occur as Mathews edged out Joyce by one bike length for the victory. "I had to run a little harder than I wanted to," Mathews sa,id afterward. "'Joyce made me work for it" Results VINT 1 (PRE-'66): 1. Royce Eaton (Duc); 2. Howard Malone (Nor). VTNT 1: 1. Moto one of the 125cc Expert class began with Michael Peacock out front, followed by Whidey, Trey Owens and Brook Fluker. Andy Bowyer tangled with a few other riders in the first tum and found himself dead last. Peacock tried to hold off Whitley, but Whitley scooted past through the whoop section. Near the end of the fourth lap, WhWey came up short over a lillie step-down jump and fell. Owens cleared the jump but landed right on Whitley and his bike. Whitll:)' was unable to continue, but Owens managed to stay on top of his KX and kept the lead. Owens took the win, followed by Peacock, Clay Hoenshell, Bowyer and Fluker. Whidey grabbed fhe moto-two holeshot and never looked back. Owens tried to keep his )()( dose while Fluker, Peacock and Hoenshell battled for position. Bowyer again went down early and had to spend the entire moto working through the pack. Fluker, Peacock, Hoenshell and Ray Mitchell freight-trained tum after tum as Bowyer passed from 13th up to sixth. Hoenshell got by Peacock then tried to get by Fluker on the outside, but Fluker shut the door and pulled away slightly through the whoops only to have Hoenshell pull alongside on the straightaways. Hoenshell flew by Fluker the next lap over the double-double section. Bowyer passed Fluker over the table top, dropping him to fifth. While Whitley pulled away from Owens, Bowyer tried to catch the leaders, passing Mitchell at the halfway flags. Mitchell then lost his entire seat, causing him to pull off the track.. Whitley took the win; Owens held off Bowyer's last-lap push to finish second. Bowyer was third. Hoenshell fourth and Fluker rO'unded out the top five. Whidey was unstoppable in the 250cc class, taking both wins easily. Whitley wowed the crowd when he tripled the huge infield jump as did fellow Team Green riders Bowyer and Owens. 0 Results SO: I.
