Team Freeze ices
Prairi~ City Mini RR
By Gary Buth
SACRAMENTO, CA, SEPT.
Team Freeze members Dan Merlino, Brian Harp
and Tony Spinks outran the field to claim victory during the NCMRRA fall two-hour
endurance mini road race held at the Prairie Gty
SVRA.
Fifteen teams took the green flag and prepared to sellle in to the two-hour fight ahead of
them. Chasing Team Freeze off the line was current NCMRRA Grand Champion Ken Takeda on
the Team Wing entry.
Just minutes into the race, the Team Freeze
entry was beginning to lap the rear of the fielc\
and move forward. Having been the only Opencla s entry, there was speculation as to whether
or not the bike would go the distance. Merlino
set a comfortable pace with only Takeda on the
Team Wing machine capable of staying close
enough to be a bother.
At the one-hour mark, Team Freeze held the
lead with Brian Harp at the controls while Brian
Short held second. Tony Spinks was set to
relieve Harp, who pulled a major stoppie before
the exchange. Short soon traded places with
Takeda, who would pit with what turned out to
be a broken set of reeds.
In the end, Team Freeze claimed the Overall
win with Team No Protest finishjng second

Kurt Hawk took top honors in the 125cc class at
the final outdoor race of the AMA District 27
dirt track season, the Rainier Short Track championship at Rainier Bowl.
Hawk, who has lost only once during the
AMA season, won the A main to dose in on current points leader Nick McBride Jr. Hawk, District Champion Dan Adkins, Sean Light and
McBride were front-runners at the unleashing of
the A main, but it was Hawk flying to yet another win aboard his Honda while Adkins netted
second. McBride forged forward to close in on
Adkins, while Light went the opposite way, losing positions to Jason Rosie and Brad Smith on
the final lap.
Robby Haycock and fellow LEM rider Brenton Schnitzer have spent the majority of the season battling back and forth in SOec action. While
Schnitzer seemed to have the upper hand earlier
in the season, Haycock has been the dominant
rider of late, picking up a win at this event in the
SOce Junior class. After Tyler Schaff finalized the
A main lineup by virtue of his win in the B
main, Haycock jlll]\pe
