drawing to a close with the
series' penultimate round at New
Hampshire International Speedway, seeond through fourth-placed Fritz Kling,
David Sadowski and David Stanton
really needed to have points leader Tray
Batey falter.
Each of these three has had at least
one poor result this season, but Batey
has not had any. Batey's consistent topeight finishes had put him 25-38 points
ahead of these three coming to Loudon,
a gap which could not be erased by just
finishing a few positions ahead of him
in the remaining four races. Batey did
falter, but he did it in practice. He suffered a hard crash in the Sunday morning warmup, which could easily have
kept him out of the races.
But it did not, and the steady, softspoken man from Tennessee rode two
characteristicalJy fast, well-judged races
for a win and a third, The indomitable
Sadowski kept up the pressure with a
second and a win, and Batey's teammate
