The T595 will be the first production bike to feature Bridgestone's 190/50-17 BT56 Battlax radial tire as standard equipment. The front tire measures 120/70-17 and both are z..rated. Fourpiston Nissin brakes are fitted to the front and work on 320= floating discs. The rear brake is 220mm in diameter and features a two-piston caliper. The next step was to increase power output. The engine is still Triumph's , trademark balance-shaft-equipped triple (with six-speed transmission), but completely redesigned with the help of Lotus Engineering. The stroke remains the same at 65mm, but the bore has been increased 3mm, to .... 79mm, for a displacement of 955cc. In the larger bores are semi-forged pistons (w'ith new lower-friction rings) designed to withstand the engine's higher, 1Q,700-rpm redline. With the increase in allowable engine speed (and the use of electronic fuel injection) new camshafts were called for, as well as new, lighter valves (lighter despite a 20-percent increase in opening area). ,As mentioned, feeding the shapeoptimized ports and combustion chambers is an sequential, non-direct, electronic fuel-injection system with three 41mm throttle bodies, Manufactured by Sagem and called the MC2000 engine-management system, Triumph claims the system uses the most powerful computer ever fitted to a motorcycle to control fuel flow, air flow and the ignition. The system is even said to predict the engine's needs while the throttle is still in motion for optimum performance and quick throttle response at all times. Other benefits include reduced emissions and better fuel economy"as well as chokeless starting and automatic compensation for high altitudes and changes in barometric pressure. The result of these changes is peak power output of 130 horsepower (DIN) at 10,200 rpm and 73.76 foot-pounds of torque at 8500. To handle the increased stress, the engine cases were strengthened as compared to the old Daytona 900 engine, while still being lighter. Color choices on the T595 are yellow or black: The T509 Speed Triple is basically the same motorcycle, but with less. The most obvious thing missing is the fairing, the result of which is a 431-pound dry weight, making the T509 the lightest Triumph in the line. Right about now you're probably thinking that's really cool because, since it's lighter than the T595, it'll be faster too. Think again. Although the T509 gets the new triple - compl.ete with fuel injection and stronger engine cases - it is missing some 22 horsepower, with peak output of 108 horsepower coming at 9,100 rpm. Torque also drops, down to 62.69 foot-pounds at 7,500 rpm. This alteration in power characteristics comes partiy from a lower compression ratio of 11:1 and reprogrammed fuel injection. You also get less wheelbase - 56.6 versus 56.7 inches. Everything else is the same basic mechanical package, all the way down to the tires. The T509 will be available in black or orange color schemes. Triumph appears to have made a huge leap forward in performance and technology while still maintaining its distinct image. The company'claims there are over 45,000 owners of Hinckley-built, new-generation Triumphs. We have a feeling there are going to be many more, Of boo , h 8am r to Kevlar.
