RACE RUBBER Dunlop Tire Corporation is making the race-spec version of its K490 Off-Road Front Tire available to consumers as ,well as professional racers. Although 'there is no difference in outward appearance, the new tire has a stiffer carcass for improved performance and stiffer bead material for less sidewall flex. The reduction in flex is said to yield greater performance under heavy braking and hard cornering as well as keeping the tread from deforming on whoops and hard g-out landings. The tire is recommended for medium to hard course conditions. Top racers like Jeremy McGrath are reported to have had a hand in upgrading the tire. Suggested retail price is $82.
