Schnabel, too, was right there, and the 17-year-old West Bend, Wisconsin, rookie was putting in the best ride of his career as he wres tled his Joe Houptprepped XR past Davis to stay with Carnlin. Schnabel then pulled out all the stops to grab second away from Camlin off turn four as the five-lap sign was indicated. The order of the top five would remain the same until after the finish of the race. Parker was well out of reach as hie grabbed his 75th victory in vintage fashion. "1 knew it was going to be a long ley continually managed to lead the pair off of turn four. Landes finally put Stanley away for good on the back straight just before the white-flag lap after both riders appeared to hit the same hole in turn two. Landes took the win with Stanley second, but when they pulled into the pits, both riders were favoring their left ankles. "I hit my ankle in practice," Landes said. "It was rough. I'm just glad 1 got out front and didn't have to fight with anybody." . "I caught my foot coming out of two twice," Stanley said. Dave Hebb grabbed the early lead, but Bret Beyer and Ken Yoder were already in front of Hebb when the pack came around on the opening circuit. Kenny Coolbeth then passed both Hebb and Yoder to run second to Beyer by'lap three. Before Beyer and Coolbeth could flee the rest of the pack, Cornhusker Motorcycle ationals winner Paul Lynch had blasted through the crowd and had the leaders in his sights.
