Once the fifth round of the HammerHead/Pepsi
Pro-Am Series got under ",ay at Pro-Sport, it
was clear that Jim's Motorcycle Sales-backed jim
Neese was a cut above his Pro-class competition
as he roosted away with aU four mota wins in
125cc A and 2SOcc A action.
.
eese had suffered a broken shoulder weeks
before, and was u iog the event to test the
waters before returning to the National circuit.
When the gate dropped for the first 250cc A
moto, Neese led from the gate to the flag, even
though, acording to Neese, "the shoulder gets
real weak by the end of the moto."
Neese's only threat came from Team Green
rider Mitchell Hodges. Hodges kept Neese within sight in all four of the A-elass motos, but just
. could not work up the speed to take a molo win
from Neese.
Honda rider Tim Hodock slipped past
Hodges in the first 250cc A moto to gamer second to eese. but the other races were all Neese
and Hodges.
Local rider Shane Templeton took fourth in
2SOcc A moto one, but fell back to seventh in the
second run. putting himself out of the top five in
the overall scores.
Yamaha-mounted. David Price, also coming
back from an injury, stepped up to net fourth
overall with a score of 7-4, while Allen Alford
rounded out the top five of 250cc A racing with
a 6-5 score.
Sonny Mitchell has long been the numberone plate hider in District 13 Senior Vet racing,
and his performance in 30+ A and 35+ racing at
Pro-Sport showed why.
. As the 35+ pack took off for moto one,
Denny Prilliman showed the way over Donnie
Foster and Mitchell. Mitchell was quick to move
to the front, but Foster stuck to his rear fender
like glue. Mitchell and Foster kept up their battle
for the lead, moving farther and farther from the
rest of the pack. Mitchell held on to take the
moto win over Foster, while Paul Mundt made
some late·m.oto moves to work up to third over
Roger Arnold and Prilliman.
Foster jetted out to the early lead in moto
two of 3S+ action. but agaJn was forced back to
second by Mitchell by the end of the first lap.
Mitchell led for the remainder of the moto, with
Foster in tow, while the battle for third heated
up. Mundt held the postion for most of the
moto, but Arnold worked past on the last lap
to secure third, giving himself third overall
over Mundt. Stuart EngIJsh finished fifth in
moto two, but it was Prilliman grabbing fifth
place overall at the end of, the day with a score
of 5-6.
