AMA Western Four-Stroke National Championship MX, Round 7

consistently and took his first overall
victory of the year in the AMA Western
National Four-Stroke Series with a 2-2
moto score In Washougal, WaShington.

KTM's Lance Small (79) continued their
ongoing battle for the four-stroke
championship at Washougal. Young lett
with the points lead atter finishing second
with a 4-1. Small took a disappointing 1-20
to eighth overall.

Walters scored his first overall win of
the AMA Western National Four:Stroke
Motocross Series in round seven at
Washougal MX Park, further securing
his hold on third place in the standings.
Husaberg's Mike-Young finished the
day in second with 4-1 scores, followed
by teammate Micky Dymond in third
with 3-4 moto finishes. ATK factory
pilot Scott Myers had the good fortune'
to finish both motos for a change, taking
6-3 scores into fourth place overall.
Local youngster Brad Hagseth took a
new BBR Honda, a "works" bike if ever
there was one, into fifth overall with 5-5
moto scores.
Young and KTM's Lance Smail have
emerged as the front-runners in the
class, engaging in a back-and-forth battle for the title throughout the series.
Oddly enough, however, the two riders
rarely engage in a direct fight, with one
or the other dominating any given moto
while his counterpart experiences difficulties.
Washougal was no exception. Smail
entered the event sporting a 10-point
lead over Young. Smail left the event
with a seven-point deficit with just one
more round remaining.
