With Loudon and Daytona to be run, Zampach has a 39-point cushion, 227-188, over Point Cycle & Moto Point of Pittsburgh's James Hanrahan, 12th today after dropping out on the seventh lap. Zampach completed the the l1-lap, 27.5-mile race in 20 minutes, 49.100 seconds at an average speed of 79.257 mph. At the start of the race, Zampach and Nobles got away cleanest from the 14rider field with Zampach in front for the first lap, then Nobles out front after taking the lead down the back chute on the second lap and stretching his legs. "I executed a perfect pass in the last tum and came out with the victory, but 1 almost went down doing it," Zampach sajd from the victory stand. "I slid in the middle of the apex and got up near the wall with aU that debris from the cars and 1 slid again and tagged the wall. I'm lucky to be standing here." the sixth lap, going out front with a turn-one pass that djdn't last all that long. Nobles motored by on the banking and held the spot again in tum one, this time moving down to protect the 'opening he'd given the lap before. Zampach would find another weakness and take the lead on the lOth lap with Nobles locked in and ready to make it a last-lap showdown. It came down to the final corner, with Zampach out in front just before the tight right and Nobles trying to go underneath, bumping into Zampach and stalling his drive. After getting out of the marbles and scraping the hay bales up near the wall of the tri-oval, Zampach put the hammer down for the win, "1 ran second to Tripp the last two races," Zampach said. "1 planned my strategy on Thursday and executed it under pressure with the pass on the last turn. I slid and tagged the wall on the last turn." \ "It was a little close there toward the end," Nobles noted. Left berund in third place early on was Hansens Motorcycles' Shawn Conrad. He'd moved into the spot behind the leaders on the fourth of 11 laps and rode alone to the finish. "About midway through the races, 1 knew 1 wasn't going to be able to hang with them and I looked behind me and there was nothmg or nobody. So I decided to get up here on the podjum again," Conrad said after rus second consecutive third-place finish. It was a decisive win, smooth and dominating, Bostrom easily pulling away from rus Bartels' H-D teammate Dave Estok, who spent the race trying not to fall off his H-D 883 after the seat/ tail section cipne loose early in the . nine-lap affair. "We had a real good setup going. We were fast in qualifying," Bostrom sajd after having set the pole position with exactly half a second in hand. "We knew we could go fast." Championship leader. Scott Zampach, of Hansen Motorcycles, finished third and majntajned rus grasp on the title. Heading into the final' round at Loudon, early in October, Zampach holds a 22-point cushion on Bostrom, 175-153. Fourteen points, a 17th-place finish, would give him the title, ev:en if Bostrom won. There were only 15 bikes in today's race. Estok sped into the lead from the end of the front of the five-row grid, Zampach and Bostrom chasing, Bostrom catcrung him on the second lap.
