(Top) Scott Parker (1) had a dismal night at Hagerstown, flnlahlng 14th. "You know, this is probably my most satisfying win," Atherton reflected afterward. "I really had to use my head. T.e. (Cummings) and Davey (Watts) worked their asses off on the bike, and it shows. We're in our third year now, and it takes that long for a mechanic and rider to come together and start trusting each other as far as the changes that you make to the motorcycle. They do all the work, and I'm the lucky guy who gets to have all the fun. Just fortunate, I guess." 883 NATIONAL Hope for a barnbumer 883 National support race was high as observers were anticipating a shootout between Bartels' Harley-Davidson teammates Eric Bostrom and Johnny Murphree, but it never materialized as Murphree got the necessary holeshot and then grenaded a transmission as the 17-rider field pulled away from the starting line. With Murphree out of the way, Bostrom left the rest of the field for dead as he scored a rout and became the only two-time winner in the class this season. "All night long I felt like I was going to check out on them," Bostrom said. "I felt really great on this thing. I felt I could do no wrong. I thought Johnny was going to be my main competition." . Sweeten Racing/Krill family rider Georgie Price IV was a lonely second ahead of Wimer's/KK/Saddlemen's Jess Roeder. Further back, Spectro / Moroney's teammates Mike Hacker and Jason Fletcher fteight-trained through the field from mediocre starts to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.
