.Hudsons heat up Summer
Series Motocross
By T.O. Jones
BASlROP, IX. JULY 13
Jacqueline Hudson and her father Tom had a
good night at the final round of Lakeside Motorsport's Summer Series. Jacqueline Hudson's victory came in the Women's class. She and Sunday
Beach ran 1-2 in the class in both motos, though
Beach came to grips with the course in the second moto and was close at the end.
The Over 2S class had some of the best racing of the night as Tom Hudson, Shayne Brightwell and Brent Hewett went at it. Hudson had
the holeshot in the first moto, but lost the lead to
Brightwell in the first whoops section. Though
Hudson rode the back wheel from the exit of the
whoops all the way to the next jump, he
couldn't catch Brightwell. l.t was a tight race, but
without much passing as they finished with
Brightwell first, followed by Hudson, Hewett
and Terry Deck, respectively.
Hudson got the holeshot again in the second
moto, then put a block move on Brightwell in
the second tum and came out with the lead.
Hewett also got by Brightwell as he recovered,
and took off after Hudson. The moto was in
doubt all the way to the finish.
Though Hudson never technically lost the
lead, Hewett and Brightwell swapped second
and third a couple of times and both managed to
get up alongside Hudson more than once;
Brightwell managing to go from fighting Hudson for the lead back to third place in the space
of two turns. Hudson won and took the overall,
while Brightwell got the moral victory with a
first and third, edging out Hewett's third and
second for second overall.

Simonsen, Fay clash at
Castle Rock TT
By Clay Light
CAS11EROCK, WA,jULY27
National number holders J.P. Simonsen and
Mickey Fay spent the entire 2O-lap Expert main
event side by side at the AMA District 27 TT at
the CasUe Rock Oubgrounds; Simonsen barely
edged out Fay for the win at the opening round
of the Dealers' Championship Series.
Todd Hagmann won a climactic Pro-Am
main event,"but he first had to come from
behind in order to earn it. Idaho's Steve Arndt
the surprising 16-yeaN>ld, got the jump on the
main event despite pressure from seasoned veterans Randy Patterson and Hagmann. Patterson
maintained his composure until Arndt and Hagmann came out of the final turn. Hagmann
nipped Arndt at the finish for the win with Patterson, Bob Moran and Josh Currey following.
Fay sat on the pole position for the 20-lap
Expert main event by virtue of winning the
fastest heat race. Jeff Annen, though, shoved a
wheel underneath Fay and led until Steve
Pruzinski crashed and forced a restart. On the
restart, Simonsen jumped out in front of Fay,
Annen and Ron Waters, ruining Annen's hopes
of a repeat win. While Simonsen had his hands
fuI] with Fay, Del Schnitzer moved from midpack to third ahead of Annen, Waters, Don Wilson and Jeff Harsha, who waged a heated battle
for fourth. Fay did all he could to take away the
l.ead from Simonsen's Honda, but Simonsen
rode a near-perfect ride to take the win. Fay held
back Schnitzer, while Annen grabbed fourth
ahead of Wilson, Waters and Harsha.
The 250cc class was of near-record size, forcing two qualifiers and a B main. Joe Lenz won the
first heat over Chase Gilbert and Nicky McBride,
while Jake Holden beat Robert Rosie and Brian
McGonigal for a heat two win. In the A main,
McGonigal forged 'ahead of a close three-way battle among himself, Holden and Lenz to pick up a
narrow victory ahead of Holden.
Holden came back to easily win the 80cc A
main ahead of Scooter Vernon and Kyle
Bunger.
